Division of the Borough of Petone into Three Wards, under
"The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886."

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,"
section twenty-seven, it is enacted that, if not less
than one-fourth of the burgesses of a borough petition the
Governor, praying him to divide such borough into wards,
the Governor may, by Proclamation, divide such borough
into not more than six wards, and shall in such Proclamation
assign such names and boundaries to each ward as he thinks
fit: And whereas not less than one-fourth of the burgesses
of the Borough of Petone have petitioned him to divide such
borough into wards:
Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, in the name and on
behalf of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand, and as his duly-appointed Deputy, in pursuance
and exercise of the hereinbefore recited authority, do hereby
proclaim and declare that the Borough of Petone shall be
and the same is hereby divided into three wards, with the
names and boundaries set forth in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

WEST WARD.

Bounded towards the north by Native land from the
north-western corner of Section No. 79, Block XIII.,
Belmont Survey District, to Section No. 16 (Native reserve);
towards the south-east and again towards the north by the
said Section No. 16, across the Wellington-Masterton Rail-
way-line to the main Hutt Road; again towards the south-
east by a line along the middle of that road; again towards
the north by a line along the middle of May Street to Nelson
Street; towards the east by a line along the middle of the
said Nelson Street to Jackson Street; towards the south by
a line along the middle of the said Jackson Street to the
western boundary-line of Section No. 4 of the said Block
XIII.; again towards the east by that section and its western
boundary-line produced to Port Nicholson Harbour; again
towards the south by high-water mark of the said harbour,
crossing the mouth of the Korokoro Stream to a point in line
with the north-eastern boundary-line of Section No. 19 of
the said Block XIII.; towards the south-west by a right line
to that boundary-line; and thence by the said Section No. 19
to Section No. 78 of Block XIII. aforesaid; and towards the
west by the last-mentioned section to the starting-point.

SOUTH WARD.

Bounded towards the north by a line along the middle of
Jackson Street; towards the east by Section No. 6, Block
XIII., Belmont Survey District, and by the western
boundary-line of that section produced to Port Nicholson
Harbour; towards the south by high-water mark of the said
harbour; and towards the west by West Ward, hereinbefore
described.

NORTH-EAST WARD.

Bounded towards the north by White's Road; towards the
east by the Hutt River and Section No. 10, Block XIII.,
Belmont Survey District, to Port Nicholson Harbour;
towards the south by high-water mark of the said harbour;
towards the west and again towards the south by South
Ward, hereinbefore described; and again towards the west
generally by West Ward, hereinbefore described.

Given under the hand of the Honourable Sir James
Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, for and on
behalf of His Excellency the Governor, and as his
duly-appointed Deputy, in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies;
and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at
the Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-fifth day of July, in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-
fourth day of July, 1888.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE DEPUTY-GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by the twenty-seventh section of "The
River Boards Act, 1884," it is enacted that on the
second Tuesday in January, one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-five, and on the same day in every third year there-
after, all the members of the Board shall go out of office and
a general election of members shall take place:
And whereas, by misadventure, no election was held on the
second Tuesday in January, one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-eight (being the day on which an election should have
been held), to elect members to the South Orari River Board:
And whereas by the forty-third section of the said Act it is
