No. 3114.—JOHN CLARK ANDREWS, of Waikuku, near Kai-
apoi, Canterbury, New Zealand, Twnemaker, and WILLIAM
Wood, of Christchurch, Canterbury, aforesaid, Merchant,
have deposited at this office a specification of an invention for
removing the gum of the plant known as Phormium tenax or
New Zealand flax, by a system of assisted cold-water fermen-
tation, whereby the gum is rendered more easily separable
from the fibre, such invention to be known as “Andrews's
Patent Flax-cleaning Process.”
No. 3115.—JOHN SMITH, of Marton, New Zealand, Mer-
chant, has deposited at this office a specification of an in-
vention for an improved apparatus for ventilating.
No. 3116.—JOHN WILCHER, of Sydney, New South Wales,
Clerk, has deposited at this office a specification of an inven-
tion for a chart for indicating chords of keyboard musical
instruments, for teaching vamping thereon, and for analogous
purposes.
No. 3117.—CLEMENT MORTON, of Dunedin, Otago, New
Zealand, Commission Agent, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for an improved recoil stamp
for indorsing purposes.
And I have appointed Thursday, the 6th day of December
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require
all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any
such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 21st day of
November next, at this office, particulars in writing of their
objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they
will be precluded from urging the same.

Crown Lands Notices.
Grey Coal Reserve Leaseholds for Sale by Auction.
Crown Lands Office,
Hokitika, 5th July, 1888.
NOTICE is hereby given that the leaseholds of the
sections of land situated in the Grey Coal Reserve
No. 274, and described in the Schedules A, B, C, D, E, and
F, given below, will be offered for sale by public auction, at
the Railway Goods-station, Brunnerton, on Wednesday, the
22nd August next, at 2 o'clock p.m., subject to the rents,
fees, and conditions hereunder set out.
Maps of the sections may be seen at the District Land
Office, Hokitika; the Public Works Office, Greymouth; and
the Railway-station, Brunnerton.
Term of leaseholds enumerated in Schedules A, B, C, D,
and F, fourteen years.
Right of re-entry reserved to Government for coal-mining
purposes only at any time during the currency of the lease,
or at the termination thereof, by paying compensation for
improvements not exceeding £200, &c.
At the same time and place the leasehold for coal-mining
purposes of Section No. 734 (see Schedule E), within Grey
Coal Reserve, east of and adjoining the Wallsend Coal Com-
pany's lease, will be offered for sale by public auction, subject
to rents and conditions as under:—
Term of leasehold, twenty-one years. First three years'
rent, £20 per annum; next four years' rent, £100 per annum;
next seven years' rent, £200 per annum; next seven years'
rent, £250 per annum. Royalty, 6d. per ton on all coal
raised; rent to merge in royalty.
Output for the first two years, nil; for the next five years,
not less than 4,000 tons per annum; for the next seven
years, not less than 8,000 tons per annum; and for the re-
mainder of term, not less than 10,000 tons per annum.
In addition to those stated above, the leases will contain
the ordinary and special conditions of leases of that descrip-
tion, full particulars of which will be given at sale, or may be
obtained at the Land Office, Hokitika.
Conditions of Sale: The highest bidder to be the purchaser.
The purchase-money in the case of the Dobson Town sections,
the Brunnerton Township, Wallsend Railway Reserve, and
Wallsend Township residential allotments, the Dobson
suburban sections, and the coal-mining lease Section No. 734,
one year's rental, lease-fee, the full amount of bonus (if any),
and value for improvements (if any), to be paid on the fall of
the hammer.
In cases where the person entitled to valuation for im-
provements purchases, payment for rental, bonus, and lease-
fee only will be required.
If any dispute occurs as to who is entitled to the value for
improvements, the question will be decided by the Land
Board; and, if any dispute arises as to any bidding, the
auctioneer may put the lot up again.
