sioner of the Western Pacific is published for general

SIR,—I have the honour to enclose herewith copies of a
regulation which I have passed, exempting the Kingdom of
Tonga from the provisions of the Arms Regulations of 1884.
The object of the enclosed regulation is to allow British
subjects to share with persons of other nationalities the
limited and legitimate trade permitted by a law recently
enacted by the Tongan Government.

A REGULATION (made in the name and on behalf of Her
Britannic Majesty by Her Majesty's High Commissioner
for the Western Pacific, under the provisions of the
Western Pacific Order in Council of 1879) to amend Regu-
lation No. 1 of 1884, intituled "A Regulation to prohibit
the Supply of Arms, Ammunition, and Explosive Sub-
stances to Natives of the Western Pacific Islands."

WHEREAS by an ordinance of His Majesty George Tubou,
King of Tonga, dated the 28th day of May, 1887, provision is
made for the restriction and regulation of the sale of firearms
and ammunition in the Kingdom of Tonga: And whereas
such ordinance is sufficient to prevent any breach of the
peace arising in Tonga from the sale of arms and ammuni-
tion: And whereas it is expedient to amend Regulation No. 1
of 1884 by exempting the Kingdom of Tonga from the operation
of the said regulation: Now, therefore, I, under the power
and authority vested in me as Her Majesty's High Commis-
sioner for the Western Pacific, revoke the said Regulation
No. 1 of 1884 in so far as it extends to the said Kingdom of
Tonga, and declare that the said regulation shall be hereafter
read as if the words "Friendly Islands" in the fourth sub-
section of section 1 did not appear therein.
This regulation shall come into force on the 1st day of
June, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-eight, and may be cited as "The Arms Regulation
Amendment Regulation, 1888."

NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS, Patent
Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, has
applied, on behalf of CHARLES WILLIAM CURTIS, of 74,
Lombard Street, in the City of London, trading as Curtis's
and Harvey, Gunpowder Manufacturers, to register, under
"The Trade Marks Act, 1866," the trade marks numbered
1 and 2, of which the following is a description, viz.:—
Description of Trade Marks.
No. 1 is a circular label, in the centre of which is the
device of a diamond, with a spot in the middle, surrounded by
the words "Diamond Gunpowder," surrounded by two
circular lines, between which and the two circular lines
forming the edge of the label are the words "Curtis's &
Harvey, Hounslow." The said trade mark is claimed to be
used in black and white, and in any other and varying
colours.
No. 2 is the oblong label containing two upright oblong
spaces formed by an ornamental border; between the two
spaces is a monogram with the letters "H & C" entwined;
in either oblong is an oval formed by a border of conventional
design; in the left space is the picture of a bird surrounded
by foliage, above which are the words "Curtis's & Har-
vey's," and below it are the words "Hounslow Gunpowder;"
in the right-hand space is the picture of a sporting-gun
showing the lock and part of the barrel, above which
are the words "Curtis's & Harvey's extra coarse grain,"
and below it the words "gunpowder for percussion guns,
Hounslow and London." Such label may be used in red
and blue, or any other and varying colours.
Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade
Marks shall apply.
