land held, taken, purchased, or acquired at any time under that Act, or any other Act or provincial ordinance, or otherwise however, for public works, is not required for public use, the Governor may, by an Order in Council, publicly noticed and gazetted, cause the same to be sold under the conditions therein set forth: And whereas the Minister for Public Works has laid before the Governor the memorial referred to in the section aforesaid, praying the Governor, by an Order in Council, to cause such land to be sold:
Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, and in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities aforesaid, do hereby order and authorise the land described in the Schedule hereto to be sold and dealt with in the manner and subject to the conditions of the fourteenth and following sections of the above in part recited Act.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twelfth day of June, 1888.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS the lands mentioned in the Schedule hereto were reserved for river protection:
And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor, it is expedient to vest the said lands in the South Waimakariri Board of River Conservators:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, and in exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by the fourth section of “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” doth hereby declare that, from and after the day of the date hereof, the said reserves mentioned in the Schedule hereto shall become vested in the South Waimakariri Board of River Conservators, in trust, for the improvement and protection of the banks of the Waimakariri River.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that piece or parcel of land in the Provincial District of Canterbury, containing by admeasurement 24 acres 1 rood, more or less, being Section No. 1053 (in red), situate in the Rolleston Survey District. Bounded on the west by Section No. 9616; on the south by Section No. 12536; on the east by the road east of Section No. 12536; and on the north by the edge of the river-bed: as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the District Survey Office, Christchurch.
All that piece or parcel of land in the Provincial District of Canterbury, containing by admeasurement 33 acres, more or less, being Section No. 2687 (in red), situate in the Christchurch Survey District. Bounded towards the north by a stream; towards the north-west by the south branch of the Waimakariri River; towards the south-west and south-east by the flood-line of the said river, being also bounded on the south-east by a road: this land is situate opposite Sections Nos. 5562 and 34409; as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the District Survey Office, Christchurch.

Wellington School Commissioners to be subject to the Provisions of “The Public Bodies’ Powers Act, 1887.”

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twelfth day of June, 1888.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by section four of “The Public Bodies Powers Act, 1887” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is provided that the Governor, by Order in Council, may from time to time declare that any leasing authority shall be subject to the provisions of the said Act, but that no such order shall have any effect unless it be issued at the request or upon the recommendation of the leasing authority on whose behalf such order is issued:
And whereas it has been made to appear that the School Commissioners for the Provincial District of Wellington are a leasing authority within the meaning of the said Act, and have requested that they may be brought under the provisions thereof:
Now, therefore, His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council thereof, and in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on him by the said Act, doth hereby order and declare that, from and after the date hereof, the School Commissioners for the Provincial District of Wellington shall be subject to the provisions of “The Public Bodies’ Powers Act, 1887.”

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twelfth day of June, 1888.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in him by “The Education Act, 1877,” the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the colony, doth make the regulation hereto annexed, approving of class-books for public schools; and, with the like advice and consent, doth prescribe that this order shall take effect from the date hereof.
REGULATION.
THE “Standard” Readers of Blackwoods’ Educational Series, the “Southern Cross” Readers (Whitcombe and Tombs, Limited, Christchurch), Wilkins’s “Australasia,” and the “New Zealand Public School” Copy Books (Whitcombe and Tombs, Limited), may be used in any public school as if they had been described and included in the list of works set forth in the Order in Council dated the 5th day of July, 1887.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken for a public work authorised to be constructed by the Government, to wit, the Cuvier Island Lighthouse:
And whereas the said land is held or occupied by Native owners:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in him by “The Public Works, Act, 1882,” and the amendments thereof, and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby order that the Government work known as the Cuvier Island Lighthouse shall and may be constructed on the parcel of land more particularly mentioned in the Schedule hereto.
