Notice of Hearing of Applications for Patents.

Patent Office,
Wellington, 6th June, 1888.

NO. 3024.—WILLIAM EARLAND, of the Glen, Mornington, Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand, Chemist, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for trapping moths.

No. 3025.—GEORGE COOKSON, of 6, Moa Place, Christchurch, New Zealand, Gardener, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for sifting cinders, to be called “G. Cookson’s Self-acting Cinder-sifter.”

No. 3026.—CHARLES MYTTON BROOKE, of Ashburton, Canterbury, New Zealand, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for making a tasteless solution of strychnine for use in poisoning wheat for small birds, oats or apples for rabbits, and bread or any other vehicle for vermin.

No. 3027.—JAMES BARKER ROBBE, of the Hospital Road, New Plymouth, New Zealand, Carpenter, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improvement on the vertical washing, wringing, and mangling machine, to be called “The Improved Combined Vertical Washing, Wringing, and Mangling Machine and Honey Extractor.”

No. 3028.—THOMAS DANKS, of Christchurch, New Zealand, Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for heating water, to be called “The Rapid Water-heater.”

No. 3029.—JAMES RANDALL GASCOIGNE, Gentleman, and JAMES SLATOR, Architect and Engineer, both of Auckland, New Zealand, have deposited at this office a specification of an invention for the electric plant protector.

No. 3030.—WALTER COLE, of Wellington, New Zealand, Architect, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in the manufacture of fuel.

And I have appointed Tuesday, the 16th day of October next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 1st day of October next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be precluded from urging the same.

“The Education Reserves Act, 1877.”

IN exercise of the powers and authorities vested in them by “The Education Reserves Act, 1877,” the School Commissioners for the Otago Provincial District have, by resolution dated the fifteenth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight, appropriated and set apart the parcel of land hereinafter described as a site for a public school.

ALL that piece or parcel of land in the Provincial District of Otago, in the Colony of New Zealand, containing by admeasurement 3 acres 1 rood 20 poles, and being part of Section No. 60, Block VII., Moeraki District; commencing at a point being 558·9 links distant due west of the south-east corner of the said Section No. 60; and bounded thence generally on the east by part of said Section No. 60 a distance of 2233·2 links; thence on the north by part of Section No. 52 of said Block VII., 155·5 links; thence generally on the west by the Shag Valley Road a distance of 2192 links; and finally on the south by part of Section No. 67 of the said Block VII. a distance of 149 links to the commencing-point: be all the aforesaid area and linkages a little more or less.


Native Land Court Notice.

Application for Rehearing of Claim granted.

NATIVE LAND COURT, NEW ZEALAND:
DISTRICT OF WANGANUI.

IN the matter of a decision of the Court given on the 3rd day of March, 1888, at a sitting held at Wanganui, upon the hearing of claims to succeed to the interest of Rangitaukeke, deceased, in land called “Waimarino,” in the said district; and in the matter of an application made, in writing, within three months after such decision was given, by Natives thinking themselves aggrieved thereby, for a rehearing upon the said claims :

I, John Edwin Macdonald, Chief Judge of the said Court, in exercise of the authority in that behalf vested in me, do hereby order that a rehearing upon such claims be had on the 3rd day of July, 1888, at a sitting of the Court to be then held at Wanganui aforesaid.

Terms and Conditions.

The lease will be for an absolute term of twenty-one years, renewable for a further term of twenty-one years, in accordance with section 209 of “The Land Act, 1885.”

Improvements equal in value to one year’s rent must be effected in each year for the first two years, and before the end of the sixth year an additional amount, equal to two years’ rent, must also be expended.

Valuations for permanent improvements, as described in sections 210 and 214 of “The Land Act, 1885,” will be paid at the expiry of the leases to the outgoing tenants.

No person can take up more than one run. No person who owns freehold land or land held under lease or license from the Crown which in all would exceed 21,000 acres, or who is incapable of making the declaration prescribed by section 200 of “The Land Act, 1885,” can become a lessee.

Every lessee will have to reside on the land he leases within twelve months of the commencement of his lease, and thereafter for a period of six consecutive years. But the Land Board may relax this condition in the case of any lessee who is actually residing on any freehold or leasehold land of his own which is situated within ten miles of the land leased by him.
