Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Masterton Road Board,
County of Wairarapa North.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the
Masterton Road Board, is published in accordance
with "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886."

SIR,—I have the honour to forward you, for the purpose of
insertion in the Gazette, results of polls taken by the
Masterton Road Board under "The Government Loans to
Local Bodies Act, 1886," as follow:—
- On proposal to borrow the sum of £800 for extending
the formation of the Wangaehu Road:—
Number of votes exercisable, 8. Number of votes recorded
for proposal, 5; number of votes recorded against pro-
posal, 2; number of votes not recorded, 1. - On proposal to borrow the sum of £200 for forming a
branch line through Section 9 to Sections Nos. 121 to 129
inclusive, Kopuarangi Survey District:—
Number of votes exercisable, 8. Number of votes recorded
for proposal, 5; number of votes recorded against pro-
posal, 2; number of votes not recorded, 1.
As a majority of the number of ratepayers having a
majority of the total number of votes exercisable voted for
each proposal, I hereby declare both proposals to be duly
carried. The polls were taken on the 26th April, 1888.

Ohinemuri County Council, is published in accordance
with "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886."

Council:—
Votes: For the proposal, 68; against—recorded, 10; un-
recorded, 160; informal, 60.
The majority of votes which can be exercised by the whole
number of ratepayers being against the proposal, I declare
the same rejected.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the
Marine Board, Hobart, Tasmania, is published for
general information.

Exhibition of Fixed Light on Table Cape, North-west
Coast of Tasmania.
With reference to the preliminary notice issued by this
Board, dated the 19th day of January last, it is hereby
notified that on and after Wednesday, the 1st day of August
next, a light will be exhibited from the lighthouse which has
been erected on Table Cape, the position and characteristics
of which are as follows:—
The Table Cape Lighthouse is situated in latitude 41° 3′ S.,
longitude 145° 43′ 30″ E. (approximate). The tower is 50ft.
in height from base to the lantern, is built of red bricks, and
left in the natural colour.
This light will be a fixed white light, dioptric, of the
second order, visible all round seaward between the bearing
of S. 61° E. round by north to N. 66° W.
The light will be elevated about 390ft. above the sea, and
allowing for the height of the eye, 15ft., it will be seen the
distance of twenty-seven miles (nautical) in clear weather,
and at lesser distances according to the state of the at-
mosphere.
The bearings are magnetic, and from seaward.

Notice to Mariners, No. 8 of 1888.
TIMARU HARBOUR.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 16th May, 1888.
THE Timaru Harbour Board has given notice that on
and after the night of Monday, the 11th June next,
in place of the two red lights 10ft. apart, one entrance
light only will be exhibited at the extreme north end of the
Breakwater, Timaru Harbour.
This light will be red, visible three miles through an arc
of 180°, and viewed from seaward will show from north-west
to south-east magnetic. Its height above high-water mark
will be 22ft. 6in.

Certain Articles exempted from Duty.
CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the power in me for this
purpose vested by "The Customs Duties Consolidation
Act, 1882," I, George Fisher, Commissioner of Trade and
Customs, do hereby order that the goods hereunder specified,
being materials which are suited only for, and are to be used
and applied solely in, the fabrication of goods within the
colony, shall be exempt from duty on the importation thereof
into the colony, namely:—
Decorated sheet tin, not being hand-painted, of the kinds
known as "stencilled" and "crystallized."
Given under my hand, at Wellington, this fifteenth
day of May, one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-eight.

bers of New South Wales Contingent.

Head-quarters,
Sydney, 26th April, 1888.
To enable the distribution of the Khedive's Star to be made
as speedily as possible, members of the New South Wales
Contingent (other than those at present serving in the Local
Defence Forces, whose claims will be submitted by Com-
manding Officers) are desired to forward name and address
in full, with regimental number and letter of the company
to which they belonged, to the Assistant Adjutant-General,
Military Staff Office, Dawes Battery, Sydney. Applicants
will also indicate the Mayor or other recognised public
official to whom they wish their decoration forwarded, as
under no circumstances can it be sent to individuals direct,
personal identification in each case being absolutely neces-
sary.
