IN exercise and pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me in this behalf, I, James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, and as such Judge of the Vice-Admiralty Court in New Zealand, do hereby appoint

ARTHUR HARRY HOLMES,

Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, at New Plymouth, to be and act as a Deputy Registrar of the said Vice-Admiralty Court.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, County of Horowhenua.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Horowhenua County Council, is published in accordance with “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

THE following is the result of the poll taken at Shannon on the 21st April, 1888, on the proposal to borrow £6,000 for forming the county road through the Wirokino Riding of the Horowhenua County:

Total number of ratepayers on roll, 63; total number of votes exercisable, 80. Total number who voted for proposal, 8; total number of votes for proposal, 17; number who voted against proposal, 0.

As the number of ratepayers who voted for the proposal and the number of votes recorded is less than half, I hereby declare the proposal rejected.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, County of Wairarapa North.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Wairarapa North County Council, is published in accordance with “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

PROPOSAL to raise a loan of £3,000 under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” for expenditure in reducing grades and metalling on the Masterton to Waimata Road, upon which a poll was taken on the 4th day of May, 1888:

Number of ratepayers on special roll, 58; representing 143 votes. Number of ratepayers who voted for the proposal, 34; representing 85 votes. Number of ratepayers who voted against the proposal, 1; representing 1 vote.

As a majority in number of the ratepayers on the special roll voted in favour of the proposal, and the number so voting are entitled to more than one-half in number of the votes which can be exercised by the whole number of ratepayers, I declare the proposal to be carried.
