Licensing Districts altered.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by the sixth section of “The Licensing Act, 1881,” it is enacted that the Governor shall, as soon as conveniently may be after the commencement of the said Act, by Proclamation in the Gazette, from time to time define districts to be licensing districts under the said Act, and from time to time may alter and redefine the boundaries of the same: And whereas it is expedient to alter and redefine the boundaries of the Districts of Newton and Avondale:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the said Act, alter and redefine the boundaries of the said districts, which shall henceforth be those described in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

NEWTON.

ALL that area known as the Borough of Newton, as described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 63, of the 12th November, 1885.

AVONDALE.

All that area in the County of Eden known as the Avondale and Point Chevalier Road Districts, as described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 42, of the 18th May, 1883.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-fourth day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by section two hundred and sixty-seven of “The Counties Act, 1886,” and at the request of the Selwyn County Council, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare the lands described in the Schedule hereto to be water-races, as defined by section two hundred and sixty-six of the said Act, to be known by the name of the Malvern Water-races; and further that the Kowai River, in the County of Selwyn, shall be a stream which may be taken for the purpose of supplying the said water-races.

SCHEDULE.

MALVERN WATER-RACES.

Arterial Race.—All that area, 75 links in width, situate in the Survey Districts of Kowai and Oxford, County of Selwyn, the southern boundary-line of which commences on the right bank of the Kowai River, near the Coal Tramway Reserve, and proceeds easterly for a distance of about 100 chains through and parallel to the southern boundary-line of the said Coal Tramway Reserve at a distance of about 75 links from that boundary-line; thence along the bed of a creek which intersects the said Coal Tramway Reserve, intersecting Section No. 3712 and Reserves Nos. 972 and 1824 and the Coal Tramway Reserve aforesaid; thence intersecting Sections Nos. 9113 and 11129; thence along the bed of the creek, again intersecting Sections Nos. 8771 and a public road; thence southerly intersecting Sections Nos. 9256, 12859, 22307, 22135, 32259, 22716, Crown lands, Sections Nos. 22315, 22303, 22315 aforesaid, 22387, a public road, Sections Nos. 18988, 31466, 22233, 22232, 17986, and 15640, all of Kowai Survey District, to the Coal Tramway Reserve aforesaid; thence intersecting that reserve to a point 75 links distant from its southern boundary-line and opposite the north-eastern corner of Section No. 22311; and thence south-easterly through the Coal Tramway Reserve aforesaid parallel to its southern boundary-line to a point opposite the north-eastern corner of Reserve No. 1322, Oxford Survey District.

Main Race No. 1.—All that area, 100 links in width, situate in the Survey Districts of Oxford, Hawkins, and Rolleston, County of Selwyn, the southern boundary-line of which commences at the south-east end of the Arterial Race, hereinbefore described, about 100 links northerly from the southern boundary-line of a reserve known as the Coal Tramway Reserve, and proceeds south-easterly generally parallel to the said southern boundary-line and through the said Coal Tramway Reserve to the Great South Road at Rolleston; excepting from the above-described area all the land occupied by the Kirwee and Aylesbury Railway-stations and the workmen’s cottages between Kirwee and Aylesbury, but including that portion actually covered by the water-race as at present constructed within the said railway-station and workmen’s cottages areas.

Main Race No. 2.—All that area, 75 links in width, situate in the Oxford and Hawkins Survey Districts, County of Selwyn, the western boundary-line of which commences at a point on the Arterial Race, hereinbefore described, about 75 links distant westerly from the south-eastern boundary-line of Reserve No. 1322, Oxford Survey District, and proceeds south-westerly parallel to the said south-eastern boundary-line to, and thence through, the Malvern Railway Reserve to a point about 75 links distant north-easterly from the south-western boundary-line of the said Malvern Railway Reserve; thence south-easterly parallel generally to and intersecting the said reserve, and intersecting Sections Nos. 14653, 14166, and 14156, Hawkins Survey District, to the Whitecliffs Branch Railway; thence across the said Whitecliffs Branch Railway, and intersecting Horndon Township, Sections Nos. 26538, 27381, 27973, Greyke’s Road, Section No. 27971, Essendon Road, Section No. 27972, and Reserve No. 1508, to the southernmost corner of the said Section No. 27972: excepting from the above-described area all the land occupied by the Racecourse Hill Railway-station, but including the portion actually covered by the water-race as at present constructed within the said railway-station.

Ridgen’s Road Race.—All that area, 12½ links in width, situate in the Survey District of Hawkins, County of Selwyn, commencing at the northernmost corner of Section No. 28593, and proceeding south-westerly along the eastern side of Ridgen’s Road to the south-western corner of Section No. 27664.

Selwyn Road Race.—All that area, 12½ links in width, situate in the Survey District of Hawkins, County of Selwyn, commencing at the northernmost corner of Reserve No. 1507, and proceeding southerly along the eastern side of Selwyn Road to the south-western corner of Section No. 27996.

Telegraph Road Race.—All that area, 12½ links in width, situate in the Survey Districts of Hawkins and Selwyn, County of Selwyn, commencing at the southernmost corner of Section No. 27972, and proceeding south-easterly along the eastern side of Telegraph Road to Burnham Road.

Burnham Road Race.—All that area, 12½ links in width, situate in the Survey Districts of Selwyn and Leeston, County of Selwyn, commencing at the eastern side of Telegraph Road, and proceeding easterly along the southern side of Burnham Road to the north-eastern corner of Section No. 28229, Leeston Survey District.

Ward’s Road Race.—All that area, 12½ links in width, situate in the Survey Districts of Hawkins and Rolleston, County of Selwyn, commencing at the westernmost corner of Section No. 28249, and proceeding easterly along the southern side of Ward’s Road to the north-western corner of Section No. 17813, Rolleston Survey District.

Bealey’s Road Races.—All that area, 12½ links in width, situate in the Survey District of Hawkins, County of Selwyn, commencing at the westernmost corner of Section No. 30873 and proceeding easterly along the south side of Bealey’s Road to the north-eastern corner of Section No. 27008; also all that area, 12½ links in width, situate in the Survey District of Rolleston, County of Selwyn, commencing at the westernmost corner of Section No. 13786, and proceeding easterly along the southern side of Bealey’s Road to the north-eastern corner of Section No. 5916.

Aylesbury Race.—All that area, 12½ links in width, situate in the Survey Districts of Rolleston and Leeston, County of Selwyn, commencing at Main Race No. 1, hereinbefore described, at the Township of Aylesbury, and proceeding south-easterly along the western side of the Aylesbury-Burnham Road to the Southern Trunk Railway.

Newton’s Road Race.—All that area, 12½ links in width, situate in the Survey District of Rolleston, County of Selwyn, commencing at the westernmost corner of Reserve No. 1464, and proceeding easterly along the south side of Newton’s Road to the easternmost corner of Section No. 28239.

Halkett Branch Race.—All that area, 12½ links in width, situate in the Survey Districts of Hawkins and Rolleston, County of Selwyn, commencing at the north-western corner
