REMARKS.

February.—Showery weather, with intervals of fine, bright,
warm days; prevailing N.W. wind, and stormy on eight days
from that quarter; the maximum rain recorded on 20th,
1·650in. Maximum temperature in shade, 71; minimum,
46; mean temperature of dewpoint, 52·5; mean humidity,
76. Earthquake on 17th, at 7 a.m., slight.

March.—Fine early part, showery during middle of month
and towards end; maximum rain recorded on 29th, ·800in.;
prevailing N.W. wind and generally strong, and stormy on
five days from that direction; a squall on the evening of 27th,
with rain and hail, and a violent gale on afternoon of 28th
from S.W., with heavy rain, hail, and sleet; considerable
damage done, and high tides; thunder on 16th and 17th.
Maximum temperature in shade, 73; minimum, 40. Mean
temperature of dewpoint, 52·5; mean humidity, 76. Earth-
quake on 31st, at 7.30 a.m., slight, E. and W.
