New Zealand, Mine Manager, has deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for the wedging in posi-
tion of bars of iron, railway-rails in hydraulic sluicing claims,
tail-boxes, and sluices, and to be styled "The Railway Iron
Wedger."
No. 2910.—Samuel Gordon and Joseph Robinson, of
Auckland, New Zealand, Railway Contractors, have deposited
at this office a specification of an invention for a ballast-
plough.
No. 2911.—William John Blake, of Wanganui, New Zea-
land, Commission Agent, has deposited at this office a speci-
fication of an invention for an improvement in filters, to be
called "Blake's Household Filter."
No. 2912.—Robert Stone, of 101, Leadenhall Street,
London, England, Engineer, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for improvements in the con-
struction of barrels or casks.
No. 2913.—Marie Charles Alfred Ruffin, of Avenue
d'Antim, Paris, Chemist, has deposited at this office a speci-
fication of an invention for a process and apparatus for
purifying crude spirit and regenerating the purifying agent.
No. 2915.—Frank Proctor, of Stevenage, England,
Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of an
invention for improvements in machinery for cultivating
land.
And I have appointed Thursday, the 9th day of August
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require
all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any
such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 25th day of
July next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objec-
tions to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be
precluded from urging the same.

tion of the said invention; and I have appointed Tuesday,
the 30th day of October next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon,

before the 15th day of October next, at this office, particu-

converting it into a continuous grinder, to be known as
"Fraser's Improved Grinding- and Amalgamating-pan."
No. 2917.—Thomas William Coulthard, of Papakura,
Auckland, New Zealand, Flax-dresser, has deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for the more perfect
dressing of New Zealand flax or any other fibrous plant, to
be called "Coulthard's Flax-dressing Machine."
No. 2918.—Robert Cockerell, of Invercargill, New Zea-
land, Agricultural-implement Maker, has deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for an improved drop-
trap gold-saving table.
No. 2919.—Andrew Curtin Giddings, of Christchurch,
New Zealand, has deposited at this office a specification of
an invention for a folding ironing-table.
No. 2920.—Edwin Henry Burbidge, of Christchurch,
New Zealand, Railway-carriage Builder, has deposited at
this office a specification of an invention for saving cinders
from coal or other fuel, to be known as "The Avalanche
Automatic Cinder-saving Machine."
No. 2921.—William Edward Chapman, of Marton, New
Zealand, Painter, has deposited at this office a specification
of an invention for an improved paint.
And I have appointed Tuesday, the 14th day of August
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require
all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any
such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 30th day of

land, Farmer, has deposited at this office a specification of
an invention for an improved grain-dividing roller for
attaching to threshing-machines, styled "Dick's Improved
Grain-dividing Roller for attaching to Threshing-machines."
And I have appointed Thursday, the 16th day of August
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all
persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such
Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 1st day of August
next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections
to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be pre-
cluded from urging the same.

Award by Land Claims Commissioner.
I, the undersigned, a Commissioner duly appointed by
virtue of the Ordinance No. 15, Session XI., of the
Legislative Council of the Islands of New Zealand, to hear
and decide claims to land by persons claiming title thereto
from, through, or under the New Zealand Company, report
that the claim of Louisa Marian Knowles, of Wellington,
widow of Henry Samuel Knowles, deceased, having been
referred to me by the Governor, I do hereby decide that the
said Louisa Marian Knowles is entitled to a Crown grant in
fee-simple of all those parcels of land containing together
about 5 acres, part of Section No. 1, Harbour District, being
Sections Nos. 5, 6, 7, 8, 22, 23, 24, 25, 45, and 62 on the plan
of Wadestown, subject to all roads in actual use as public
roads over said land. Title to be antevested from the 1st
August, 1848.
Dated at Wellington, the 16th day of April, 1888.
