Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities in me vested by “The Public Works Act, 1882,” and of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that, from and after the date of the publication hereof in the New Zealand Gazette, the lands mentioned in the Schedule hereto are hereby taken for the purposes of the construction of the said roads.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-third day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight.

Division of the Borough of Melrose into Three Wards, under “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886.”

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” section twenty-seven, it is enacted that, if not less than one-fourth of the burgesses of a borough petition the Governor, praying him to divide such borough into wards, the Governor may, by Proclamation, divide such borough into not more than six wards, and shall in such Proclamation assign such names and boundaries to each ward as he thinks fit: And whereas not less than one-fourth of the burgesses of the Borough of Melrose have petitioned me to divide such borough into wards :

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the hereinafore recited authority, do hereby proclaim and declare that the Borough of Melrose shall be and the same is hereby divided into three wards, with the names and boundaries set forth in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

KILBIRNIE WARD.

ALL that area bounded towards the north and east by Port Nicholson and the waters of Evans Bay to the western boundary-line of Section No. 9, Block VII., Port Nicholson Survey District; thence again towards the east by said Section No. 9 and Section No. 13, Block XI., to Lyall Bay; thence towards the south by Lyall Bay and Section No. 1; and towards the west by Section No. 2 and the City of Wellington.

ISLAND BAY WARD.

All that area bounded towards the north by the City of Wellington and Kilbirnie Ward hereinbefore described; towards the east by Lyall Bay; towards the south by Cook Strait; and towards the west by Section No. 26, Block XIII., Port Nicholson Survey District, and Sections Nos. 23 and 20, Block X.

OHIRO WARD.

All that area bounded towards the north by the City of Wellington; towards the east by the City of Wellington and Island Bay Ward hereinbefore described; towards the south by the sea; and towards the west by the south-western boundary-line of Section No. 27, Block XIII., Port Nicholson Survey District, and by Sections Nos. 38, 70, 7, 6, 5, 4, and 3, Block X., by the boundary-fence of Waterworks Reserve, which runs through Section No. 1, Block VII., and; by Sections Nos. 32 and 29, Block VI., to the City of Wellington.
