REGISTRAR-GENERAL’S Report on the Vital Statistics of the Four Principal Boroughs of New Zealand during the year 1887.

  • The population for Auckland is that estimated for the 1st January, 1887. The information supplied as to the number of inhabited houses in January of the present year is not sufficiently accurate to be used in calculating population. The figures for 1887 are believed to be in excess of the actual fact. It has been deemed unsafe to give any death-rate, as the proportion could not be relied on. (See remarks at end.)

THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 Years of Age and 5 Years and upwards, and the Proportions per cent. of Deaths from each Cause, in the Boroughs of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, that were registered during the Year 1887.
