French military posts from the New Hebrides, the Govern-
ment of Her Britannic Majesty will proceed to the abrogation
of the declaration of 1847. It is understood that the
assurances relating to trade and to convicts, which are
contained in the note verbale of the 24th October, 1885, com-
municated by M. de Freycinet to Lord Lyons, shall remain
in full force.

In witness whereof the undersigned, duly authorised for
that purpose, have signed the present Convention, and have
affixed thereto their seals.

Done in duplicate at Paris, the 16th November, 1887.

Notice of Intention to incorporate the Rhodes Memorial
Convalescent Home as a Separate Institution.

Wellington, 24th February, 1888.

HIS Excellency the Governor in Council directs it to be
notified, in terms of section 43 of "The Hospitals
and Charitable Institutions Act, 1885," that he has received
a petition from not less than fifty subscribers to the Rhodes
Memorial Convalescent Home, praying that the Rhodes
Memorial Convalescent Home may be incorporated as a
separate institution; and that if no counter-petition, signed
by an equal or greater number of subscribers, shall have
been delivered at the office of the Colonial Secretary within
one month after the publication of this notice, or if the
District Board shall not have lodged with the Colonial
Secretary within the same time an objection to such peti-
tion, the Governor in Council will declare the said home to
be a separate institution under the said Act.

Result of Poll of Proposed Loan, Pahiatua Town Board.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the
Pahiatua Town Board, is published in accordance with
"The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886."

THE following is the result of a poll taken by the Pahiatua
Town Board on the 20th instant, on the proposal to borrow
£300, under the provisions of "The Government Loans to
Local Bodies Act, 1886," for the purpose of street improve-
ments within the district:—

Number of ratepayers, 168, exercising 200 votes. Number
of ratepayers who voted, 87, exercising 115 votes; number
voting in favour of proposal, 86, exercising 114 votes; num-
ber voting against proposal, nil, exercising nil; informal 1,
exercising 1 vote.

And as a majority in number of the ratepayers voted in
favour of the proposal, and the number so voting are entitled
to more than one-half in number of the votes which can be
exercised by the whole number of ratepayers, I hereby de-
clare the said proposal to be carried.

Dated this 21st day of February, 1888.

For the proposal, 20; against—votes recorded 2, unrecorded
97; informal, 1.

The majority of votes which can be exercised by the whole
number of ratepayers being against the proposal, I declare
the same rejected.

Special Order of Richmond Road Board, County of Wai-
mea.—Altering Name of Road District, and Names and
Boundaries of Subdivisions.

THE following special order, made by the Richmond Road
Board, is published in accordance with "The Road
Boards Act, 1882."

At the ordinary monthly meeting of the Richmond Road
Board, held at the office, Richmond, on the 3rd April,
1886, all the members being present,—

In consequence of the Richmond Town District being now
established, and in order to prevent confusion, it was resolved
to alter the title of the Board to that of Stoke Road Board,
and the subdistricts, with some alteration of boundaries, to
those of Stoke, Hope, and Appleby; and the Secretary was
instructed to communicate with the Chairman of the Wai-
mea County Council to that effect.

Saturday, 4th September, 1886.—A special meeting of the
Board was held, according to advertisement, at 4 o'clock p.m.,
all members present.

The minutes of the meeting held on the 3rd April, 1886,
as to altering the title of the Board and the boundaries of
the subdistricts were read. It was resolved, That the same
be confirmed by special order of the Board; and the Secretary
was instructed to take the necessary steps to have the same
carried into effect.

BOUNDARIES OF SUBDISTRICTS.

Stoke Road District.

Stoke Subdistrict.— Bounded towards the north-east
generally by the Borough of Nelson from the ocean to the
northernmost corner of Section xviii., Suburban South;
thence by the north-eastern boundary-line of that section
and its production for a distance of about two miles; thence
towards the south-east by a right line bearing S. 45° W. until
it is intersected by a line being the production of the north-
eastern boundary-line of Section 58, Square 1, Waimea Sur-
vey District; thence toward the south-west by that line to
the north-eastern boundary-line of Section 58 aforesaid;
thence by that section and Sections 70, Square 1, and 93 and
70, Waimea East, to the north-eastern boundary of the
Richmond Town District; thence by the said boundary to
the ocean; and thence towards the north-west by the ocean
to the place of commencement.

Hope Subdistrict.—Bounded towards the north-east by
the Stoke Subdistrict from the point intersected by the
south-eastern boundary of the Richmond Town District and
the south-western boundary of said subdistrict to the south-
ernmost point on the latter boundary; thence towards the
south-east by the production of the south-eastern boundary-
line of the Stoke Subdistrict to the River Lee; thence
towards the south-west and west by a line along the middle
of the Rivers Lee, Roding, and Wairoa to a point in the
latter river intersected by the production of the north-western
side of the main road (Nelson to Foxhill, &c.); thence
towards the north-west by Sections 170, 138, 134, 130, 126,
122, 118, 114, and 110, Waimea East, and across road between
the latter section and Section 108 to the south-western
boundary of the Richmond Town District; thence towards
the north-east and north-west by the Richmond Town Dis-
trict to the place of commencement.

Appleby Subdistrict.— Bounded towards the south-east
generally by the Richmond Town District from the northern-
most corner of Section 218, Waimea East, to the southern-
most corner of Section 108, Waimea East; and thence by
the Hope Subdistrict to the Wairoa River; thence towards
the west by a line along the middle of that river and the
River Waimea to the mouth of the latter; thence by the
ocean from Section 207, Waimea East, to the place of com-
mencement.

Amuri Sheep District declared clean.—Notice No. 249.

The Minister's Office, Live Stock Branch,
Wellington, 1st March, 1888.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to declare
the Amuri Sheep District, as altered by Proclamation
of this date, to be a clean sheep district under "The Sheep
Act, 1878."
