New County of Otamataea divided into Ridings, &c.

A PROCLAMATION.
I N exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
vested in me by the "The Counties Act, 1886," I,
William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, do hereby divide the new County of
Otamataea, as constituted by the said Act, into seven ridings,
to be called the Kaiwaka Riding, the Whakapirau Riding,
the Wairau Riding, the Mareretu Riding, the Paparoa Riding,
the Matakohe Riding, and the Tokatoka Riding, and that
the boundaries thereof shall be those set forth under the
names of the said ridings respectively in the Schedule hereto.
And I do hereby declare that the number of members to be
elected for each of the said ridings shall be as follows: For
the Kaiwaka Riding, two members; for the Whakapirau
Riding, one member; for the Wairau Riding, one member;
for the Mareretu Riding, one member; for the Paparoa
Riding, one member; for the Matakohe Riding, one member;
and for the Tokatoka Riding, one member.
And I do further declare that Saturday, the nineteenth
day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-
seven, shall be the day upon which the election of the first
Council of the said County of Otamataea shall take place,
and that Monday, the twenty-eighth day of March, one
thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven, at one o'clock in
the afternoon, shall be the time, and Mr. Davis's Hall,
Mangaturoto shall be the place, at which the first meeting
of the said Council shall be held.
SCHEDULE.
OTAMATEA COUNTY.
Kaiwaka Riding.—Comprises all that area in the County
of Otamataea bounded towards the North generally by the
County of Whangarei, as described in the First Schedule to
"The Counties Act, 1876;" towards the North-east by the
ocean to the South head of the Mangawai River; thence
towards the South-east by the right bank of that river to the
creek at the western side of the road forming the south-
western boundary of Section No. 84, Parish of Mangawai;
thence by that creek to the south-western corner of Section
No. 89 of the said parish, Pakiri Survey District; thence
towards the South and East by Sections Nos. 90 and 92, and
the western boundary-line of the latter section produced
across a road; thence again towards the South and the North-
east by Section No. 93, Parish of Mangawai aforesaid, to the
Parish of Oruawharo; thence towards the South-west by the
said Parish of Oruawharo to the Hakaru River; thence again
towards the South-east generally by the said Hakaru River,
the Topuni River, and the Oruawharo River; towards the
South-west by the last-mentioned river and the Wairoa
Estuary; towards the North-west generally by the Otamataea
River and the Kaiwaka River to the western boundary-line
of the Native reserve containing 53 acres in the Parish of
Kaiwaka; and thence by the Parish of Wairau.
Whakapirau Riding.—Comprises all that area in the
County of Otamataea known as the Whakapirau Road Dis-
trict, as described in a special order in the New Zealand
Gazette No. 118, 10th November, 1883.
Wairau Riding.—Comprises all that area in the County of
Otamataea known as the Wairau Road District, as described
in the New Zealand Gazette No. 42, 18th May, 1883.
Mareretu Riding.—Comprises all that area in the County
of Otamataea bounded towards the North-west by a line
along the middle of the Manganui River from a point in line
with the north-eastern boundary-line of the Parish of Mata-
kohe to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary-line
of the Parish of Tauraroa; thence by a straight line to and
thence by the said Parish of Tauraroa and the Parish of
Waikiekie; thence towards the North-east by the Parish of
Ruarangi and the Parish of Waipu; towards the South-east
by the Wairau Riding, hereinbefore described; towards the
South by the Parish of Paparoa; and towards the South-west
by the Parish of Matakohe.
Paparoa Riding.—Comprises all that area in the County
of Otamataea bounded towards the North by the Mareretu
Riding, hereinbefore described; towards the South-east by
the Wairau Riding, hereinbefore described, and Te Pahi
River; towards the South-west generally by the Arapaoa and
the Paparoa Rivers; and towards the West by the Matakohe
River and the Parish of Matakohe.
Matakohe Riding.—Comprises all that area in the County
of Otamataea bounded towards the North by the County of
Whangarei, as described in the First Schedule to "The
Counties Act, 1876;" towards the North-east and South-east
by the Ridings of Mareretu and Paparoa, hereinbefore de-
scribed, and the Matakohe and Arapaoa Rivers; towards the
South-east by the Otamataea River; towards the South-west
by the Wairoa River to a point in line with the south-eastern
boundary-line of Section No. 1, Parish of Omaru; thence
towards the North-west and West by a straight line to the
said Section No. 1; and thence by the said Parish of Omaru.
Tokatoka Riding.—Comprises all that area in the County
of Otamataea bounded towards the North-west by the
Parishes of Whakahara and Okahu respectively, from the
Wairoa River to the Manganui River; thence towards the
North-east and again towards the North-west by the County
of Whangarei, as described in the First Schedule to "The
Counties Act, 1876; towards the South-east generally by the
