NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS, Patent Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, has applied, on behalf of JOHN AITCHISON AND CO., of Edinburgh, Scotland, and Liverpool, England, Brewers and Wine and Spirit Merchants, to register, under “The Trade Marks Act, 1866,” the trade mark of which the following is a description:—
Description of Trade Mark.
The figure of Apollo in a chariot driving four horses through clouds. Behind the figure is a sun and rays, and above it the words “With fiery steeds Apollo drives the Chariot of the Sun,” and below it the words “Chariot Brand.” The whole is contained in a club-shaped label, at the foot of which are the words “John Aitchison & Co., Brewers, Edinburgh.”
Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.

The device of a tobacco-pipe, on the right-hand side of which are the words “T. Williams, Smithfield.”

NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS, Patent Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, has applied, on behalf of STAPLEY AND SMITH, of 128, London Wall, London, England, Manufacturers of Ladies’ Underclothing, Baby-linen, Corsets, &c., to register, under “The Trade Marks Act, 1866,” the trade marks numbered from 1 to 3, of which the following is a description:—
Description of Trade Marks.
No. 1 consists of a shield containing the letter £, above the shield being the word “Sterling,” and below it the words “Lock Stitch;” on either side of the shield being the words “Trade Mark,” and a small scroll.
No. 2 consists of the device of two hands in the act of sewing; above the same being the words “Hibernia” and “Trade Mark,” and below the words “Hand Made.”
No. 3 consists of an oblong label containing on the right the device of a dog’s head with a collar, on which is the word “Alpine”; above the head are the words “Trade Mark,” and on the left side of the label are the words “The Alpine; pure natural wool underclothing;” the whole surrounded by a line.
Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade Marks shall apply.

ROCK OFF EASTERN EXTREMITY OF GREAT PALM ISLAND.
NOTICE is hereby given that a rock (Paluma Rock), with not more than 10ft. of water over it at low-water springs, has been found by Lieutenant G. E. Richards, R.N., commanding H.M. surveying vessel “Paluma,” to lie in the following position, viz., Electra Head, N.W. ¼ W.; South-east Cape, S.S.W. ¼ W.
The rock is of very small extent, and has depths of from 11 to 15 fathoms close to.

Application to proclaim the Teremakau and Arahura Rivers and their Tributaries a Watercourse for the Deposit of Tailings.
NOTICE.—In pursuance of the powers vested in him by section one hundred and fifty-four of “The Mining Act, 1886,” His Excellency the Governor directs it to be notified that application has been made to him to proclaim the watercourses known as the Teremakau and Arahura Rivers, in the Provincial District of Westland, and their tributaries, to be watercourses into which tailings, mining débris, and waste-water of every kind used in, upon, or discharged from any claim or licensed holding adjacent to such watercourses shall be suffered to flow or be discharged.

Bonus for Canned and Cured Fish for Export.

IT is hereby notified that bonuses under “The Fisheries Encouragement Act, 1885,” as set forth in the following sections (Nos. 8, 9, and 10) of that Act, will be paid subject to the conditions named therein, and in the regulations contained in the Order in Council of even date herewith.
JULIUS VOGEL.
- In order to encourage the production and curing of fish for export, the Colonial Treasurer shall during the next seven years after the passing of this Act, without further appropriation by Parliament, pay out of the Consolidated Fund to any person who shall prepare canned and cured fish for export, and actually export the same from the colony, a bonus or bonuses upon the quantity of canned and cured fish prepared and exported by such person as hereinafter mentioned, that is to say,—
(1.) In respect of the first 200 tons avoirdupois of fish canned with or without oil, the sum of 1d. per pound, the weight of the cans not to be included in the tonnage upon which such bonus is paid;
(2.) In respect of every ton avoirdupois of fish canned as aforesaid beyond the first 200 tons, the sum of ½d. per pound, the weight of the cans not to be included in the tonnage upon which such bonus is paid;
