Application for Registration of a Trade Mark.

NOTICE is hereby given that Messrs. THORNE AND RIGBY, of Auckland, in the Colony of New Zealand, Solicitors, have applied, on behalf of FREDERICK WHITEHEAD, of Auckland aforesaid, Tea, Coffee, and Spice Merchant, to register, under “The Trade Marks Act, 1866,” the trade mark of which the following is a description, viz.:—

Description of Trade Mark.

The picture or representation of Mount Tarawera in a state of eruption, engraved, printed, or impressed upon a label, with the word “Tarawera” above, and the words “Bound to make a show” on the base of such representation, and bearing a facsimile of the signature of the said Frederick Whitehead following or underneath the words “None genuine without the proprietor’s signature.”

Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.

Baking and other effervescent powders, in tins, bottles, or packets.

Sauces, pickles, or other condiments, in bottles or jars.

Teas, coffees, and spices, in tins, boxes, or packets.

Labels for application to packets, bottles, or boxes containing any articles made or sold by the said Frederick Whitehead.

Arrangements for First Elections, &c., Borough of Carterton.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint

HENRY HILMAR WOLTERS, Esq.,

to be Town Clerk of the Borough of Carterton, as constituted under “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” and also to be the Returning Officer to conduct the first elections of Mayor and Councillors of the said borough; also to appoint Wednesday, the 13th day of July, to be the day for holding the first election of Mayor, and Thursday, the 14th day of July, 1887, to be the day for holding the first elections of Councillors of the said borough; and also to appoint Tuesday, the 19th day of July, 1887, at 2 o’clock p.m., to be the time, and the County Council Chambers, at Carterton, to be the place, at which the first meeting of the Carterton Borough Council shall be held.

Special Order made by the Mangorei Road Board, County of Taranaki.

THE following special order, made by the Mangorei Road Board, is published in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER.

THAT this Board do now levy a special rate of three-eighths of one penny in the pound on all rateable property in the Mangorei Road District (not including Crown lands), for the purpose of meeting interest and other charges on a loan of £600, to be obtained from Government under the provisions of “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886;” and that the said rate be an annual-recurring rate until the loan is paid off, payable at the Collector’s house, in equal instalments, on the 30th day of June and the 31st day of December in each year, the first instalment to be payable on the 30th day of June, 1887.

I certify that the above special order was duly made by the Mangorei Road Board on the 28th day of May, 1887.

Special Order made by Tauranga County Council.—Altering Ridings, &c.

THE following special order, made by the Tauranga County Council, is published in accordance with “The Counties Act, 1886.”

SPECIAL ORDER.

THAT, in accordance with section 44 of “The Counties Act, 1886,” a special order be made altering the number of ridings in the County of Tauranga, making four ridings instead of three as at present, by creating a new riding, to be called the Te Puna Riding; the said new riding to have the same boundaries as the present Te Puna Road Board District, and to be represented in the Tauranga County Council by one Councillor.

I hereby certify that the foregoing special order has been duly made in accordance with the law.

Special Order made by Eden Terrace Road District, County of Eden.

THE following special order, made by the Eden Terrace Road Board, is published in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Eden Terrace Road Board on the 18th May, 1887, striking Special Rate for Water-supply.

THAT an annual-recurring special rate of one-fourth of a penny in the pound on the annual rateable value of the property in the district, for a water-supply, be now struck; the said rate to be levied annually, and to be made payable on the first day of September in each year, for twenty-six years from the 1st day of April, 1887; to be paid in one sum at the office of the Board, or to such persons as shall be lawfully appointed to receive the same, until the whole loan is paid off.

I hereby certify that the special order made by the Eden Terrace Road Board on the 18th May, 1887, striking a special annual-recurring rate, for a water-supply for the district, of one-fourth of a penny in the pound on the annual rateable value of the property in the district, was duly passed in accordance with the provisions of section 76 of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

COPY of SPECIAL ORDER passed by the Masterton Road Board at a Meeting held on Saturday, the 4th June, 1887.

THAT, for the purpose of securing payment of the sum of £350, granted to the Board by the Government under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” a special rate of seventeen-sixtieths of a penny in the pound will be made and levied on the rateable value of the following sections of land in the Mikimiki Survey District: Part Section No. 8, Subsections Nos. 8 and 11, Section No. 10, Block XII.; part Section No. 56, Block XV.; part Section No. 8, Subsection No. 15, Block XII.; Section No. 56, Block XVI.; part Section No. 8, Subsection No. 12, Block XII.; part Section No. 7, Subsection No. 9, Block XII.; part Section No. 33, Block XIV.; part Section No. 8, Subsections Nos. 5 and 7, Section No. 9, Block XII.; part Section No. 8, Subsections Nos. 13 and 14, Block XII.; part Section No. 8, Subsections Nos. 1 and 4, part Section No. 8, Subsection No. 16, Block XII. Such special rate shall be an annually-recurring rate, and will be payable in two equal half-yearly instalments for twenty-six years, the first half-yearly payment to be made on the first Monday of November of the present year,
