SIR,—I have the honour to send result of poll of the ratepayers in No. 3 Ward of the Masterton Road District, held on the 26th ultimo, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £350, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for the purpose of metalling a portion of the Upper Opaki Road.

RESULT OF POLL.
For proposal.. .. 9 ratepayers with 17 votes.
Against proposal .. Nil.
Votes not exercised .. 3 ratepayers with 4 votes.

As a majority of the total number of ratepayers, having a majority of the total number of votes exercisable, voted in favour of the proposal, I declare that the same has been duly carried.

GREY COUNTY COUNCIL.—RED JACK’S RIDING.

NOTICE is hereby given that the result of the poll taken under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” in the Red Jack’s Riding, Grey County, on Thursday, the 7th April, 1887, on the proposal of the Grey County Council to borrow the sum of £400 for the construction of a dray-bridge and approaches across Rough and Tumble Creek, on road between Twelve-Mile and No Town, was as follows:—

Votes for the proposal .. .. 24
Votes against the proposal .. .. 40
Informal votes .. .. 2
Total number of votes on roll, 137.

As the number of votes in favour of the proposal is less than one-half of the total number of votes which can be exercised, I do hereby declare the proposal to be rejected.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Geraldine County Council, is published in accordance with “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

NOTICE is hereby given that the poll of the ratepayers of the Seadown Water-supply District, taken on the 27th day of April, 1887, on the proposal of the Geraldine County Council to raise the sum of £2,500 by way of loan, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” for the purpose of constructing irrigation-works within that part of the Geraldine County known as the Seadown Water-supply District, resulted as follows:—

Number of possible votes, 221.
For proposal.. .. 72 voters with 122 votes.
Against proposal .. Nil.

As a majority in number of the ratepayers voted in favour of the proposal, and the number so voting are entitled to more than one-half in number of the votes which can be exercised by the whole number of ratepayers, I hereby declare the said proposal carried.

BEACHY HEAD Light, in lat. 50° 44⅓′ N. and long. 0° 13′ E., will be altered in June, showing one flash of about 4 seconds every 15 seconds.—January.

Royal Sovereign Light-vessel, in lat. 50° 42⅔′ N. and long. 0° 26⅔′ E., will be altered in June, showing three quick flashes every 45 seconds, visible 1⅓ seconds, eclipsed 2⅓ seconds, visible 1⅓ seconds, eclipsed 2⅓ seconds, visible 1⅓ seconds, eclipsed 35⅓ seconds.—January.

WESTPORT HARBOUR.

THE Westport Harbour Board has given notice that on and after the 10th instant the BAR and DANGER signal balls and the tidal balls, which are shown from the flagstaff at the signal station at that port, will be painted RED instead of white as formerly.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the Lyttelton Harbour Board, is published for general information.

THE Lyttelton Harbour Board direct special attention to the dredging operations now proceeding outside the Lyttelton Breakwater, and caution all masters of steamers and sailing-vessels to take the entrance to the southward and westward of the dredge and her moorings, on which side a red flag will be shown in the daytime and two lights (green over white) will be shown at night.

Attention is also directed to Harbour Regulation No. 34.
