A PROCLAMATION.

IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authority vested in me by the two hundred and sixty-seventh section of “The Counties Act, 1886,” and at the request of the Selwyn County Council, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare the lands described in the Schedule hereto to be water-races as defined by the two hundred and sixty-sixth section of the said Act, to be known by the name of the Waimakariri Water-races; and, further, that the River Waimakariri, in the County of Selwyn, shall be a stream which may be taken for the purpose of supplying the said water-races.

WAIMAKARIRI WATER-RACES.

Waimakariri Main Water-race.

ALL that area, 50 links in width, situate in the Rolleston Survey District, County of Selwyn, commencing at or near a point on the right bank of the River Waimakariri where the north-western boundary line of Reserve No. 1053 would, if produced, meet the said river, and proceeding generally south-easterly, intersecting Reserves Nos. 947 and 2614 respectively, Section No. 8189, Reserve No. 2615, and the north-eastern corner of Section No. 12662, to Thompson’s Road; thence across that road, and intersecting Section No. 32826, to the West Coast Road; thence across that road, and intersecting Section No. 10821, to the road forming the south-eastern boundary of the last-mentioned section; thence across that road, and intersecting Section No. 12712, to the road forming the north-eastern boundary of the said Section No. 12712; thence across the last-mentioned road, and intersecting Sections Nos. 14175, 29912, and 14592, across a road, and intersecting Sections Nos. 13959, 28287, 12763, 14283, 12762, 12498, 15814, 18331, 13747, 13656, 13918, and 27615, to the Waimakariri and Ross Road; thence across that road, and intersecting Sections Nos. 27614, 23101, and 27616, to a road; thence across the last-mentioned road, and intersecting Sections Nos. 31512, 27805, 34239, 34316, and 34576, to and across a road; thence intersecting Crown land and Sections Nos. 13967, 12491, 11581, and 6274 to Dawson’s and Waimakariri Road; and thence across that road to the western boundary-line of Section No. 11582.

Branch Race No. 1.

All that area, 50 links in width, except across public roads, where the width is 25 links, situate in the Rolleston and Leeston Survey Districts, County of Selwyn, commencing at the western boundary-line of Section No. 13656, Rolleston Survey District, on the right bank of the Waimakariri Main Water-race, hereinbefore described, and proceeding south-westerly along the said boundary-line for a distance of about 15 chains; thence south-easterly, generally, intersecting the said Section No. 13656, to a road; thence across that road, and intersecting Sections Nos. 6541, 10932, 6612, 6736, 6596, and 6542 of the said Rolleston Survey District, to Halkett’s Road; thence across the last-mentioned road and along the eastern side of Weeden and Ross Road to the Great South Road; thence along the eastern side of Weeden and Springs Road to the Lincoln and Coal Tramway Road; thence across that road and along the eastern side of the road which runs direct from the northernmost corner of Section No. 5339, Leeston Survey District, to the southernmost corner of Section No. 6066 of the said Leeston Survey District.

Sub-branch Race No. 1 of Branch-race No. 1.

All that area, 25 links in width, situate in the Leeston and Halswell Survey Districts, County of Selwyn, commencing at the southernmost corner of Section No. 3649, Leeston Survey District, and proceeding north-easterly along the north-western side of Selwyn Road to Tancred and Halswell Road, and thence south-easterly across the said Selwyn Road and along the north-eastern side of the said Tancred and Halswell Road to Springs Road.

Sub-branch Race No. 2 of Branch Race No. 1.

All that area, 25 links in width, situate in the Leeston and Halswell Survey Districts, County of Selwyn, commencing at the north-eastern side of Lincoln and Coal Tramway Road, at the south-western corner of Section No. 4299, Leeston Survey District, and proceeding south-easterly along the north-eastern side of the said Lincoln and Coal Tramway Road to Springs Road.

Branch Race No. 2.

All that area, 25 links in width, situate in the Rolleston, Leeston, and Halswell Survey Districts, County of Selwyn, commencing at the Weeden and Ross Road, at the north-western corner of Section 9915, Rolleston Survey District, and proceeding easterly along the southern side of Bealey’s Road to the northernmost corner of Reserve No. 924 of the said Rolleston Survey District; thence south-easterly, generally, across a road which intersects the said Reserve No. 924, and along the south-western side of the road forming the north-eastern boundary of Reserve No. 924 aforesaid, and the north-eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 7375, 7945, and 23316, the north-eastern boundary of Reserve No. 925, the north-eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 7801, 8764, 8775, and 10291, all of the Rolleston Survey District aforesaid, and the north-eastern boundary of Reserve No.

ERRATUM.—In New Zealand Gazette No. 23, of the 7th April, 1887, page 451, under Volunteer Officers appointed, Ashburton Rifle Volunteers, for “Joseph Albert Müller” read “Albert Joseph Müller” to be Lieutenant.
