Lease of Pastoral Runs, Poverty Bay, under Part VI. of
"The Land Act, 1885."—Land District of Auckland.

Auckland, 16th March, 1887.
I HEREBY notify that the lands specified in the Schedule
hereunder will be offered for lease, by public auction,
as pastoral runs, subject to the provisions of clauses 169 to
193 inclusive of "The Land Act, 1885," at the Land Office,
Gisborne, on Monday, the 25th April next, at 11 o'clock in
the forenoon.

SCHEDULE.
COOK COUNTY.
No. 42.
ARAKIHI NORTH RUN.—About 8,290 acres. Upset annual
rental, £100. Description of Land: Same as Arakihi South
Run.
No. 43.
ARAKIHI SOUTH RUN.—About 12,100 acres. Upset annual
rental, £125. Description of Land: Open and scrubby, a
little bush, good soil, very broken; unformed road through
block.
No. 44.
WAIHORA RUN.—8,905 acres. Upset annual rental, £110.
Description of Land: Bush and open, good soil, much
broken; no present access, but could be provided.
Arakihi and Waihora Runs are situated about forty miles
from Gisborne, by Ormond—Waimata—Waiapu Road.
No. 45.
WAINGAROMIA NO. 3 RUN.—586 acres. Upset annual
rental, £20. Description of Land: Good land, close to
Ormond—Waiapu Road, open and scrub.
No. 46.
MANGATOKERAU RUN.—5,456 acres. Upset annual rental,
£62. Description of Land: Good land, scrub and fern, but
mostly bush; access could be obtained from Tolago—Waiapu
Road without much expenditure; distant about twenty
miles from Uawa Township, Tolago Bay.
No. 47.
WHAREKOPAE RUN.—19,969 acres. Upset annual rental,
£62. Description of Land: Mostly bush, but some good
open and partly-grassed land in that part called Hihiroroa;
the west part is densely wooded with birch; access easily
obtainable by Ormond—Motu—Opotiki Road.
No. 48.
HANGAROA—MATAWHAI RUN.—12,019 acres. Upset annual
rental, £62. Description of Land: Mostly open, back part
rough, some few flats along river; no access at present.
The above lands are situated about thirty-two miles from
Gisborne, close to the Wairoa—Gisborne Main Road.
No. 49.
TAUWHARETOI NORTH RUN.—About 23,090 acres. Upset
annual rental, £80. Description of Land: Mostly bush, and
much broken in western part, some totara timber on river
frontage; accessible by a partly-formed bridle-road from
Patutahi.
No. 50.
TAUWHARETOI EAST RUN.—About 8,230 acres. Upset
annual rental, £125. Description of Land: Mostly open,
some fairly good flats along river, enough bush for fencing
and building, some grass.
No. 51.
TAUWHARETOI SOUTH RUN.—About 19,069 acres. Upset
annual rental, £62. Description of Land: More than half
bush, the remainder fern and scrub, with a little grass.
No. 52.
TUAHU RUN.—9,252 acres. Upset annual rental, £30.
Description of Land: Mostly bush, a good deal of it black
birch, but a little open land along the Ruakitura; a bridle-
road on opposite side of river passess near this block.
ABSTRACT OF CONDITIONS.
Term of license, twenty-one years, subject to be determined,
without compensation, at any time if the land thereon com-
prised, or any part thereof, is required for sale as agricul-
tural or pastoral land. Twelve months’ notice of such
determination to be given to the licensee.
Rent to be paid half-yearly in advance, the first payment,
to be made on day of sale, being for the period from the
25th April, 1887, to the 31st August, 1887.
A pasturage license shall entitle the holder thereof to the
exclusive right of pasturage over the lands specified therein,
but shall give no right to the soil, or timber, or minerals,
and shall immediately determine over any land which may
be proclaimed a hundred, or which may be licensed, leased,
purchased, granted, or reserved under this or any other Act
Such roads and rights-of-way as the Governor or the Land
Board may deem necessary may at any time be taken
through any run without compensation.
No licensee of any run purchased hereunder shall be
allowed to transfer his interest therein without the consent
of the Land Board.
Twelve months before the expiration of the term of
license (if it shall be determined to again let the land for
depasturing purposes) the run shall be put up to public
auction subject to a valuation for improvements, such valua-
tion in no case to exceed three times the amount of the aver-
age annual rental of the run. In the case where the run is
not again offered for lease, the licensee will be allowed to
remove buildings, fencing, enclosures, or other improvements
made by him while lessee at any time within three months
after the expiration of his license.
Runs may be divided with the sanction of the Land Board,
and upon payment of £1 1s. for each subdivision.
If the licensee shall not pay the rent within fourteen days
after it shall become due he shall be liable to a penalty of
not more than £1 for every day that such rent shall be in
arrear, and if such rent, together with the full amount of
the penalty, be not paid within three months after such due
date the license shall forthwith be declared forfeited.
The licensee of any run shall have the right, with the con-
sent of the Land Board, to select and occupy as a homestead
an area of not exceeding 150 acres, which shall be exempt
from the right of determination during the currency of his
license.
Maps showing the positions of the above runs may be seen
and further particulars obtained on application at this
office, and at the Land Office, Gisborne.
Run for Sale by Auction.
Crown Lands Office,
Christchurch, 18th March, 1887.
RUN to be submitted to public auction, at the Land
Office, Christchurch, on Friday, the 22nd April, 1887,
at 12 o’clock noon.
The license will be for a term of two years ten months and
eight days, terminating on the 1st March, 1890. Purchasers
will have to pay one year four months and eight days’ rental
to the 1st September, 1888, on the fall of the hammer.
