will be called optional subjects, and which are defined in

Euclid and trigonometry ; the paper in English history will
be more difficult than the paper set in the same subject for
the Junior Examination ; and in shorthand eighty words a
minute (reporting style) will be required. In other subjects
the papers will be those set for the Junior Examination,
but higher marks will be required for a pass. The exami-
nation in English will include abstract- and précis-writing,
composition and correspondence, and a period of literature
and special books to be read will be chosen from time to time

Henry IV. and Henry V., and Lamb’s Essays of Elia.
  5. As soon as possible after the Senior Examination has
been held, the Minister of Education will publish a list of
the successful candidates, and in the list those that have
passed with distinction will be named in the order of their
merit, that is to say, in the order of the marks assigned to
them, and the rest in alphabetical order.
