Provisions of “The Government Apprentices Act, 1875,”
extended to Lithographic Printing.

IN pursuance and in exercise of the authority vested in me by “The Government Apprentices Act, 1875,” I hereby notify that the provisions of the said Act shall extend and apply to the art or trade of lithographic printing, and that the Foreman Lithographic Printer in the New Zealand Survey Department shall be a master to whom any person or persons may be apprenticed.

Application for Registration of a Trade Mark.

NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS, Patent Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, has applied, on behalf of JAMES AUSTIN AND SONS, of Princes Street, Finsbury, London, in England, Patent Sash- and Blind-lines Manufacturers, to register, under “The Trade Marks Act, 1866,” the trade mark of which the following is a description, viz. :—

Description of Trade Mark.

The device of an anchor having a short piece of rope fastened to the ring and coiled round the shank.

Nature of the Article to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.

NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS, Patent Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, has applied, on behalf of the firm trading as “PETER STUBS,” at Warrington, Lancashire, in England, and also at Rotherham, Yorkshire, in England aforesaid, Steel File and Tool Manufacturers, to register, under “The Trade Marks Act, 1866,” the trade mark of which the following is a description, viz. :—

Description of Trade Mark.

The name “Stubs” printed in a horizontal line, and having the initials “P.S.” printed on the left of such name in a vertical position.

Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.

Unwrought and partly-wrought metals used in manufactures, including steel and steel wire, cutlery and edge tools, including files, saws, blades, and Lancashire tools with cutting edge, and metal goods generally.

Arson.—Free Pardon and £250 Reward.

Department of Justice,
Wellington, 8th December, 1886.

WHEREAS on the night of the 4th December instant the Railway Export Goods-shed, in Dunedin, was destroyed by fire ;

And whereas there is reason to believe that such fire was the work of an incendiary:

This is to notify that His Excellency the Governor will grant a free pardon to any person implicated in the said fire, not being the principal offender, who will give such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of any one or more of the other offenders ; and that a reward of two hundred and fifty pounds (£250) will be paid by the Railway Department to any person, not being the principal offender, who shall first give such required information.

Officers’ Uniform, New Zealand Militia.

THE under-mentioned uniform may in future be worn by officers of the New Zealand Militia.

COLONEL, LIEUTENANT-COLONEL, AND MAJORS

May wear, on ceremonial and state occasions, and also at reviews and parades, the following uniform:—

Frock.—Blue cloth, double-breasted, rolling collar; the front and collar edged with ⅜in. black-mohair braid. An Austrian knot of black Russia braid on each sleeve, reaching to 6in. from the bottom of the cuff; five loops of black Russia braid on each side of the breast, fastening with black olivets; two olivets at the waist behind. The skirts lined with black. Shoulder-straps of the same material as the garment, edged with ⅜in. black-mohair braid, except at the brace; black-netted button at the top. Badges of rank in gold.

Waistcoat.—Scarlet cloth, without collar, edged with gold Russia braid, and fastening with hooks and eyes. A pocket on each side.

Trousers.—Blue cloth, with scarlet stripes 1¾in. wide down the side seams.

Forage Cap.—Blue cloth, with gold-embroidered drooping peak, and band of 1¾in. lace; gold-purl button and braided figure on the crown, with the letters “N.Z.M.” in front (in gold).

Spurs.—Brass.

Sword.—Infantry-regulation pattern.

Scabbard.—Brass.

Sword-knot.—Gold and crimson cord with gold and crimson acorn.

Sword-belt.—White patent or buff leather.

Shoulder-belt.—White patent leather.


CAPTAINS, ADJUTANTS, AND LIEUTENANTS.

Patrol Jacket.—Blue cloth, 28in. long, from the bottom of the collar behind, for an officer 5ft. 9in. in height, with a proportionate variation for any difference in height, rounded in front, and edged with 1in. black-mohair braid all round and up the openings up the sides. On each side in front four double drop-loops of ¼in. flat plait, with eyes in the centre of each loop; the top loops extend to the shoulder-seams, and the bottom to 4in.; four knitted olivets on the right side, to fasten through the loops on the left. On each sleeve an Austrian knot of flat plait, 7in. high from the bottom of the cuff. Double flat plait on each back seam, with crow’s foot at top and bottom, and two double eyes at equal distances. Pockets fitted with flaps in and out. Hooks and eyes in front. Shoulder-straps of the same material as the garment, edged with ¼in. black-mohair braid, except at the base; black-netted button at the top. Badges of rank in gold.

Trousers.—Blue cloth, with scarlet welt ¼in. wide down each side seam.

Forage Cap.—Blue cloth, straight up, 3in. high, with black patent-leather drooping peak and chin-strap. The peak ornamented with ¼in. full gold embroidery. Band, 1¾in. wide, of black oak-leaf lace, with the letters “N.Z.M.” (in gold) in front.

Spurs.—For adjutants, steel.

Sword.—Infantry-regulation pattern.

Scabbard.—Steel.

Sword-knot.—White buff leather.

Sword-belt.—White patent or buff leather.

Shoulder-belt.—White patent leather.
