Application for Registration of a Trade Mark.

Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Wellington, 28th October, 1886.

NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS, Patent Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, has applied, on behalf of EDWARD H. FENNESSY, trading as “B. F. BROWN AND CO.,” of Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America, to register, under “The Trade Marks Act, 1866,” the trade mark of which the following is a description, viz.:—

Description of Trade Mark.

It consists of the arbitrarily-selected words “Satin Polish.” These have generally been arranged immediately below the word “Brown’s,” and the whole enclosed within an ornamental circular border, beneath which are the words “For Ladies’ and Children’s Boots & Shoes, Traveling Bags, Trunks, &c., &c. Manufactured by B. F. Brown & Co., Boston, Mass.,” enclosed within an ornamental rectangular border, forming a continuation of the circular border above referred to; but the arrangement may be changed at pleasure, or the words “For Ladies’ and Children’s Boots & Shoes, Traveling Bags, Trunks, &c., &c. Manufactured by B. F. Brown & Co., Boston, Mass.,” and the ornamental borders, may either or all be omitted without materially altering the character of the trade mark, the essential feature of which is the arbitrarily-selected words “Satin Polish.”

Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.

Preparations for leather, and the particular description of goods comprised in such class on which the said trade mark is used is blacking and leather-dressing.

P. A. BUCKLEY,
Colonial Secretary and Registrar of Trade Marks.

Approving and appointing Bonded Tobacco Manufactory.

CUSTOMS.—In pursuance of the powers in me for this purpose vested by “The Tobacco Act, 1879,” I, the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, do hereby approve and appoint the under-mentioned building or premises to be a manufactory in which tobacco may be manufactured prior to the payment of duty thereon:—

A building, constructed of stone and wood, situated in Walker Street, on Section 2, Block V., in the City of Dunedin, to be known as

WONG SING’S BONDED TOBACCO MANUFACTORY.

Given under my hand, at Wellington, this second day of November, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six.

JULIUS VOGEL,
Commissioner of Trade and Customs.

Commissioner’s Order No. 249.]

Notice to Mariners, No. 46 of 1886.

LEADING LIGHTS, ENTRANCE TO MANUKAU HARBOUR, WEST COAST OF NORTH ISLAND.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 2nd November, 1886.

NOTICE is hereby given that, on and after the night of Monday, the 15th November, 1886, leading lights will be shown at Manukau Heads from sunset to sunrise, as described below:—

On the South Head: Two red lights will be shown from the leading beacons. They are two of Chance Brothers and Co.’s dioptric port lights of the sixth order, and they should be visible about eight or nine miles in clear weather.

On the North Shore: Three white lights will be shown from the beacons on the north side of the harbour. They are three of Chance Brothers and Co.’s dioptric steamers’ lights, and should be seen in clear weather for eight or nine miles.

The red lights on the South Head, when kept in a line on a N.E. by N. ¼ N. (magnetic) bearing, lead in a fairway to clear the Heron Spit and the Treachery and Tranmere Shoals. This course should be continued until the three white lights shown from the North Shore beacons are brought in line bearing N. ¾ W., which course will lead clear of the Emma Bank and the South Head Spit; and when one-third of a mile inside the South Head the course is clear up the harbour.

NOTE.—These various leading lights will be shifted from time to time, so as to lead in the channel.

Caution: From the great altitude of these leading lights, possibly they may be seen in clear weather at a great distance, but during fogs or thick weather the red lights are liable to be altogether obscured. Masters of vessels bound in should therefore exercise great care in approaching the bar.

Persons not thoroughly acquainted with Manukau Harbour should on no account attempt to cross the bar at night.

Jos. A. TOLE,
(For the Minister having charge of the Marine Department.)
