IN pursuance of the powers vested in me by “The Animals Protection Act, 1880,” and “The Animals Protection Act Amendment Act, 1881,” I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare that from and after the date hereof hares shall cease to be within the operation of the said Acts within the County of Ashburton.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-eighth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to cancel the commission of, and dismiss from the Volunteer Force, Captain Samuel Frederick Mayhew, of the Spring Creek (Marlborough) Rifle Volunteers, he having been convicted and sentenced to imprisonment by civil power for the embezzlement of the funds of the corps.
