A PROCLAMATION.

BY virtue and in exercise of the powers and authorities
vested in him by the one hundred and thirty-fifth
section of "The Land Act, 1885," and of every other power
and authority enabling him in that behalf, His Excellency
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, doth hereby declare that the section of land enume-
rated in the Schedule hereto shall be set apart for lease,
with right of renewal, under the provisions of Part IV. of
"The Land Act, 1885."

Tauranga, Taupo, and Waikato, and abolishing District
of Maketu.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by "The Resident Magistrates Act, 1867,"
it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor
from time to time, by Proclamation in the New Zealand
Gazette, to constitute throughout the colony, or in any part
thereof, districts to be called Resident Magistrates' districts,
and such districts from time to time to abolish, and the
boundaries to define and alter, and in any such Proclama-
tion to fix a time on and from which any such district shall
be constituted or abolished, as the case may be :

And whereas by Proclamations bearing date the ninth day
of August, one thousand eight hundred and eighty, the
twenty-first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-two, the sixteenth day of October, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-three, and the thirty-first day of October,
one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three, His Excel-
lency the Governor, in pursuance and exercise of the powers
and authorities so vested in him, did define the boundaries of
the Resident Magistrates' Districts of Maketu, Tauranga,
Taupo, and Waikato, as described in the said Proclamations
respectively, to be Resident Magistrates' districts within the
meaning and for the purpose of the said Act :

And whereas it is expedient to abolish the said District of
Maketu, and to alter the boundaries of the said Districts of
Tauranga, Taupo, and Waikato so defined as aforesaid :

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance
and exercise of the powers and authorities so vested in me as
aforesaid, do hereby abolish the said District of Maketu, and
alter the boundaries of the said Districts of Tauranga, Taupo,
and Waikato, and define them, as described in the Schedule
hereto, as and from the first day of November proximo.

SCHEDULE.
TAURANGA.

All that area in the Provincial District of Auckland,
bounded towards the North-east by the ocean from Ngakuri-
a-whare to Waitahanui; thence towards the South-east by
the County of Whakatane; towards the South-west by the
County of East Taupo; towards the North-west and again
towards the South-west by the County of Piako to the
Hauraki Resident Magistrate's District, as described in the
New Zealand Gazette No. 114, 1st November, 1883; and
thence towards the West and again towards the North-west
by the said Hauraki Resident Magistrate's District to Nga-
kuri-a-whare, the place of commencement: including Mayor,
Motiti, and other adjacent islands.

WAIKATO.

All that area in the Provincial District of Auckland,
bounded towards the North-west, West, and North, from the
mouth of the Awaroa Stream, by the northern shore of the
Whangape Lake; thence by the Whangape Stream; thence
by the right bank of the Waikato River to the Whanga-
marino River; thence by that river to its most northerly
source in the Pataroa Range; thence towards the North-east
and North-west by the Hauraki Resident Magistrate's Dis-
trict, as described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 114, 1st
November, 1883, to the County of Tauranga; thence again
towards the North-east and South-east by the Counties of
Tauranga and Rotorua respectively to the westernmost
corner of the latter county at Uira Gorge; thence towards
the South by a right line to Rangitoto Mountain; thence by
a right line to the source of the Mokau River; thence
towards the South-west by a right line bearing north 22Β° 30β€²
west to the summit of the watershed between the Waipa
River and the West Coast; thence towards the West by that
summit to Pirongia Mountain, and by part of the western
boundary of the Military Settlements Block to the north-
western angle of that block; thence by a right line to the
summit of the watershed between the Waikato River and the
West Coast at a point due east of Waikarea; thence by that
summit to a point due west of the mouth of the Awaroa
Stream in Whangape Lake; and again towards the North by
a right line to the said mouth, the place of commencement.

TAUPO.

All that area in the Provincial Districts of Auckland and
Wellington, bounded towards the North-west and North-east
by the Resident Magistrates' Districts of Waikato and Tau-
ranga, hereinbefore described, and the Resident Magistrate's
District of Opotiki, as described in the New Zealand Gazette
No. 78, 12th August, 1880; towards the South-east generally
by the Resident Magistrate's District of Wairoa, as described
in the New Zealand Gazette No. 78, 12th August, 1880, and
the Resident Magistrate's District of Napier and Waipu-
kurau, as described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 19, 14th
February, 1884; towards the South-west generally by the
Resident Magistrate's District of Wanganui, as described in
the New Zealand Gazette No. 38, 11th June, 1885; and
towards the North-west by the Resident Magistrate's Dis-
trict of Taranaki, as described in the New Zealand Gazette
No. 103, 11th September, 1884.
