THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the
Portmaster, Brisbane, is published for general infor-
mation.

SHOAL GROUND SOUTHWARD OF SMITH'S ROCK, ENTRANCE
TO MORETON BAY.

Notice is hereby given that a rocky shoal, with not more
than 5 fathoms over it at low water, has been found bearing
N.E. easterly 1·3 miles from the lighthouse at Cape Moreton.
The shoal ("Brennan" Shoal) lies N.W. and S.E., is very
narrow, and about a ½ cable in length.

Notice to Mariners.—No. 29 of 1886.

GEORGE SOUND, WEST COAST OF MIDDLE ISLAND, NEW
ZEALAND.

Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 17th August, 1886.

CAPTAIN GREY, of the Government steamer "Stella,"
reports having examined the two rocks reported by
Captain Sinclair, of the s.s. "Tarawera," in George Sound.
One is on the south side of the south-east arm at the head
of the Sound. It is about 150 yards from the mainland, and
70 yards from the small island shown on the chart, which
bears S. ⅛ E. It is about 50ft. across, and has 6ft. water on it,
with 3 fathoms on the all-round ledge, and deep water close
to. The other rock is on the north side of the arm, higher
up than the previous one, and is abreast of the small island,
and about 70 yards from the mainland. It is a good-sized
patch, with 16ft. water on it, and with 5 or 6 fathoms
near to all round.

IN accordance with section 144 of "The Public Works
Act, 1882," I, Edward Richardson, the Minister for
Public Works, do hereby make the following addition to the
scale of charges, to come into force from and after the 16th
day of August, 1886:—
