The following remarks apply only to the four principal boroughs:—
The births in July were 800 against 227 in June, an increase of 73. The deaths in July were 117 against 97 in June, an increase of 20.
There were 15 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: 3 males of 78, 71, and 65, and 2 females of 79 and 65, died at Auckland; 4 males of 77, 74, 73, and 69, and a female of 77, at Wellington; a male of 91, and a female of 77, at Christchurch; and 3 females of 85, 72, and 71 at Dunedin.
Specific Febrile or Zymotic Diseases.—These diseases caused a much greater mortality in July than in the previous month, the deaths having been 21 in July against 9 in June. Measles and rubeola (or German measles) caused 7 deaths in July, viz., 5 in Wellington and 2 in Christchurch, all of young children, against 3 in June. The mortality from whooping-cough increased from 2 deaths in June to 7 in July; these deaths in July having been confined to Dunedin. Typhoid fever caused 3 deaths in July against 1 in June. Of these, 2 occurred in Wellington and 1 in Christchurch,
