*Corrected in accordance with estimates of population based on the census return of 1886.

The deaths of persons not residents of the boroughs, occurring at hospitals, have been excluded in all cases.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 515 against 492 in June, an increase of 23. The deaths in July were 197, an increase of 35 on the number for June. Of the total deaths, males contributed 115; females, 82. Eighty-one of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 41·12 per cent. of the whole number; 52 of these were under 1 year of age.

THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 Years of Age and 5 Years and upwards, and the Proportions per Cent. of Deaths from each Cause, in the Boroughs of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, that were registered during the Month of July, 1886.
