The lands are situate adjacent to the Mangaramarama
and Mangaone Streams, commencing about two miles east of
the Makakahi Bridge, at Pahiatua Rock, Forty-mile Bush.
Road-lines have been laid off from the bridge and from the
end of the Hawera Road, which intersect the whole area.
The former road has been felled and formed to a point three-
quarters of a mile in from the bridge, and on the Mangaone
Valley Road, from the end of the Hawera Road, about two
miles of road-clearing and felling have been effected.
The country is generally hilly or broken, with some small
flats in the valleys. The quality of the soil varies from fair
to good; the formation is papa, and a little limestone in
places. The bush consists of rimu, rata, tawa, hinau, maire,
tawhero, &c., and the undergrowth of rangiora, konini,
supplejacks, &c.

These lands are situate in the Kaiwhata and Wainuioru
Districts, and are intersected by the horse-roads from the
Wharau to the Kaiwhata River and Flat Point, at a distance
of about twenty miles from Gladstone. The country is gene-
rally sandstone hills, with limestone on some of the sections
on the Kaiwhata River. The soil varies from poor to fair.
Some of the sections are covered with tawai (black birch),
rimu, matai, hinau, rewarewa, kahikatea, &c., others with
manuka. The undergrowth comprises rangiora, koromiko,
hoho, &c.
