salaries and allowances to the said officers respectively as the
Board shall think reasonable.
- The Board shall have power to frame by-laws for the
settlement of all disputes between contributors and the
owners of any drainage machine; for providing for the regu-
lation of its meetings, proceedings, debates and general con-
duct of the business of the Board, the appointment of Re-
turning Officers, and the manner of conducting elections of
the Board; and for regulating the duties, duration, and con-
dition of service, and the salaries or other remuneration, of
officers and servants of the Board.
Any vacancy occurring on the Drainage Board during the
year shall be filled by some person nominated by the Board.

The Board shall have power to enter into contracts for
the drainage of all or any portion of the lands within their
jurisdiction, and, subject to the regulation as hereinafter
provided, to purchase, lease, construct, or maintain any
drainage works within the area; and all revenue accruing
to the Board shall, subject to the payment of necessary ex-
penses of, and incidental to, the Board's management, be
devoted in such manner as the Board may deem best to the
efficient drainage of all lands within the area. -
Before purchasing, leasing, or constructing any drainage
or pumping works, the Board shall obtain the approval of
not less than two-thirds of those assessed for contribution. -
The Board shall have power to make a supplementary
rate at any time during the year, should any special circum-
stances render the same desirable. In making such a rate
the Board shall take into consideration any special or addi-
tional benefit found to have accrued to all or any of the
lands within the area since the striking of the previous rate. -
Within the period of twenty-one days before or after the
day appointed for the holding of any election, or of any meeting
of the Board, or for the doing of any act, matter, or thing by
these regulations required to be done on or before a day
certain, it shall be lawful for the Governor to extend the
time allowed for the holding of such election, a meeting of
the Board, or for the doing of any such act, matter, or thing
as aforesaid, notwithstanding the day may have passed on
which the same ought to have been held or done, and to
adopt, or cause to be adopted, such measures as may be
necessary to remove any obstacle of a technical or formal
nature by which the carrying-out of the provisions of these
regulations may be impeded, and to supply any deficiency
which may be required to be supplied in order to enable the
said provisions to be duly carried out.
DRAINAGE AREA.
All that portion of the Hauraki Gold-mining District com-
mencing at a point at high-water mark of the Hauraki Gulf,
at the mouth of the Shellback Creek; thence by that creek
to its intersection with the surface of the Main Slide; thence
by the surface of the said Main Slide to its intersection with
the Hape Creek; thence by that creek to its confluence with
the Kauaeranga River; thence by high-water mark to the
Shellback Creek, being the point of commencement: as de-
lineated on plan marked M. 35, deposited in the Mines Office,
Wellington.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this twenty-
ninth day of December, 1885.

IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers vested in him
by "The Public Works Act, 1882," and of all other
powers in anywise enabling him in that behalf, His Excel-
lency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor
of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and
consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth
hereby order that the Government work known as a road, in
Waikohu Survey District, Cook County, Provincial District
of Auckland, shall and may be constructed on or through
the parcels of land mentioned in the Schedule hereto, and
delineated in the plan marked P.W.D. 13520, deposited in
the office of the Minister for Public Works at Wellington,
in the Provincial District of Wellington, in the said colony,
and thereon coloured red.

terbury, Otago, and Southland.

WHEREAS by the two hundred and twenty-seventh sec-
tion of "The Land Act, 1885," it is enacted that the
Governor may from time to time, either by general or
particular description, and whether the same has been sur-
veyed or not, reserve from sale temporarily, notwithstanding
that the same may be then held under pastoral license, any
Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of
the purposes in the said section mentioned:
Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and
pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by the
said Act, do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the land
in the Land Districts of Auckland, Taranaki, Hawke's Bay,
Wellington, Nelson, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, de-
scribed in the Schedule hereunder written, for the purposes
in the said Schedule specified.
SCHEDULE.
AUCKLAND.
All that piece or parcel of land called or known as Section
No. 119, of the Parish of Whangarei, situate in the Purua
Survey District, Provincial District of Auckland, and con-
taining by admeasurement 10 acres, more or less. Bounded
towards the North-east by a public road, 130 links, 502 links,
575 links, and 680 links; towards the South-east by Section
No. 120 of the Parish of Whangarei aforesaid, 867 links;
towards the South-west by the Te Tupua Block (No. 50),
1905 links; and towards the North by Section No. 123 of
the Parish of Whangarei aforesaid, 184 links, to the point of
commencement: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less.
For a thermal-springs and recreation reserve.
All that piece or parcel of land called or known as Lot
No. 33A of Section No. 12 of the Suburbs of Auckland,
situate in the Otahuhu Survey District, Provincial District
of Auckland, and containing by admeasurement 3 acres
1 rood 35 perches, more or less. Bounded towards the North
by Lot No. 33 of Section No. 12 aforesaid, 1156 links;
towards the South-east by Lot No. 31 of Section No. 12
aforesaid 90 links, and by a public road 451 links and 331
links; and towards the South-west by a public road, 696
links, to the point of commencement: be all the aforesaid
linkages more or less. For a plantation.
All that piece or parcel of land called or known as Lot
No. 33B of Section No. 12 of the Suburbs of Auckland,
situate in the Otahuhu Survey District, Provincial District
of Auckland, and containing by admeasurement 1 rood
38 perches, more or less. Bounded towards the South-east
by a public road, 434 links; towards the South by a public
road, 313 links; and towards the North-west by Lot No. 33
of Section 12 of the Suburbs of Auckland aforesaid, 691
links, to the point of commencement: be all the aforesaid
linkages more or less. For a plantation.
All that piece or parcel of land called or known as Lot
No. 33C of Section No. 12 of the Suburbs of Auckland,
situate in the Otahuhu Survey District, Provincial District
of Auckland, and containing by admeasurement 1 rood
30 perches, more or less. Bounded towards the South-east
by a public road, 449 links and 381 links; and towards the
North-west by Lot No. 33 of Section No. 12 aforesaid, 796
links, to the point of commencement: be all the aforesaid
linkages more or less. For a plantation.
