NOTICE is hereby given that W. J. BEALE, of 170, Queen Street, Auckland, in the Colony of New Zealand, has applied, on behalf of BEALE AND COMPANY, of 371A, Pitt Street, Sydney, in the Colony of New South Wales, to register, under “The Trade Marks Act, 1866,” the trade mark of which the following is a description, viz.:
Description of Trade Mark.
The figure of a woman half draped, holding in one hand the Australian flag bearing the word “Beale,” and with the other extending a laurel-wreath, the whole surrounded by a border, with the words “Beale & Company, Advance Australia.”
Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.

NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS, Patent Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, has applied, on behalf of SPRATT’S PATENT, LIMITED, of Henry Street, Tooley Street, Southwark, in the County of Surrey, England, Biscuit Manufacturers, to register, under “The Trade Marks Act, 1866,” the trade marks of which the following is a description, viz.:
Description of Trade Marks.
No. 1 is a representation of a square biscuit with a number of small holes, and having a cross in the centre, above which is the word “Spratt’s,” and below which is the word “Patent.”
No. 2 is a representation of the head and a portion of the body of a dog in oval outline, surmounted by the words “Spratt’s Patent Meat Fibrine,” and having below the words “Dog Cakes,” between which words is a small representation of No. 1 mark, and the words “None genuine unless so stamped.” In each top corner is also a small representation of No. 1 mark, and the words “None genuine unless so stamped;” and in the left-hand bottom corner are the words “and Patent,” and in the right-hand bottom corner are the words “Poultry Food.”
No. 3 consists of a group of poultry, above which are the words “Spratt’s Patent.”
No. 4 is a representation of two pheasants.
Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade Marks shall apply.
As to No. 1 mark: Dog biscuits.
As to No. 2 mark: Dog biscuits and substances and preparations for feeding pheasants and other game birds and poultry.
As to Nos. 3 and 4 marks: Substances and preparations or feeding pheasants and other game birds and poultry.

THE following notice, received from His Worship the Mayor of Lawrence, is published in accordance with “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876,” and the Acts amending the same.

BOROUGH OF LAWRENCE.
Notice is hereby given that on Wednesday, the 26th day of May, 1886, a poll was taken of the burgesses of the Borough of Lawrence, in the Town Hall, Lawrence, in the manner provided by “The Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876,” on a proposal by the Lawrence Borough Council to raise a special loan of £2,000, in accordance with section 139 and following sections of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876” (for the purpose of repaying an existing loan of £2,000), and to pledge as security for such special loan and interest thereon a special rate of sixpence in the pound on the annual rateable value of property within the Borough of Lawrence; and at the said poll 115 votes were recorded for the above proposal and none against it; and, the number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal being in excess of half the total number of burgesses, I hereby declare the resolution in favour of the proposal duly carried.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the Department of Ports and Harbours, Melbourne, is published for general information.

PORT PHILLIP BAY.—SOUTH CHANNEL.
Pilots, masters of vessels, and others are hereby informed that, in connection with the defence works at the South Channel Fort, several buoys have been laid and piles driven over the sandbanks on each side of the South Channel.
The buoys, three in number, have been placed in close proximity to Nos. 5, 6, and 7 channel buoys.
The piles have been driven in the following positions:—
Ten to the southward and westward of the South Channel Fort, and within a distance of two cables therefrom.
Eight to the southward of No. 6 white buoy, and within a distance of three and a half cables therefrom; and
One to the southward of No. 4 white buoy, and within a distance of two cables therefrom.
Each pile stands 6 feet above high water, and is surmounted by an oval mark.
The whole of the buoys and piles are situated nearer to the banks than the established buoys which mark the navigable waters of the South Channel.
Masters of vessels, pilots, and others are warned to keep clear of the above-mentioned buoys and piles when navigating in the vicinity of the South Channel.

PORT PHILLIP HEADS.—LEADING LIGHTS.
Referring to Notice to Mariners dated the 27th December, 1862, pilots, masters of vessels, and others are hereby informed that, on and after the 1st November, 1886, the low leading light to the entrance of Port Phillip will be altered by exhibiting the white light of the western sector four degrees farther to the eastward, thereby bringing the eastern edge of the Lonsdale Rock within the range of such white sector.
The low light, therefore, on and after the date mentioned, will be seen from approaching vessels on the following bearings:—
