NOTICE OF INTENTION TO CONSTRUCT A WATER-RACE.

To the Mining Registrar at Cromwell of the Dunstan Mining District, and all other persons whom it may concern.

TAKE notice that it is intended to construct a Water-race and divert water for irrigation and general purposes, commencing at a point in the Lowburn Creek about 300 yards above my freehold, and terminating at the Clutha River. The length of such race is half a mile or thereabouts, and its intended course is east and west. The mean depth of such race is 1 foot and the mean breadth 2 feet, and it is proposed to divert three Government-heads of water. The race is already constructed. The time for which the race is required is fifteen years.
Dated at Cromwell, this 5th day of February, 1886.
CHARLOTTE PERRIAM,
(By her Agent, Jas. MARSHALL.)

MEMORANDUM OF ALTERATION.

PATENT for the Climax String and Sustainer.
This is to notify to all whom it may concern that CHARLES GITTUS, of Auckland, New Zealand, Bootmaker, has applied to me for leave to enter a memorandum of alteration of the said invention, the particulars whereof are stated below. I do therefore appoint Wednesday, the fourteenth day of April next, at eleven o'clock in the forenoon, to hear and consider the said application, and all objections to the same. And I do hereby require all persons having an interest in opposing the said application to leave, on or before the thirtieth day of March, at my office, in Wellington, particulars in writing of their objections to the same, otherwise they will be precluded from urging such objections.
Given under my hand, this eleventh day of February, 1886.
C. J. A. HASELDEN,
Patent Officer.

The following is the memorandum of alteration which I desire to make:—
Metal plate A, in my specification 1029. It reads thus: "Slots to the number of notes required with countersinks." In my alteration, slots to the number of strings with countersinks, or a separate slot to each screw-head or shaft. Reason for alteration in slots, to give additional strength to metal-plate. The string and screw in my first plan of working were intended to be in one.
In my alteration the string is attached to the screw by the means described below: b, a screw-head or shaft having flat sides to prevent it turning or rotating, to which the string is attached by passing the end of the string through a small hole at the lower end of the screw b; a screw-nut is then fixed upon the spring and screwed to the lowest end of the shaft enclosing the string and locking it into two small grooves. The reason for the alteration is the impossibility of getting the original strings manufactured in New Zealand.
