land, subject to certain restrictions on the alienation of such
land, and application has been made for the removal of
such restrictions:

It is hereby notified that it is the intention of His Excel-
lency the Governor, immediately after the expiration of sixty
days from the publication of this notice in the Gazette and
in the Kahiti, to remove the said restrictions on the aliena-
tion of the said land.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William
Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General
in Her Majesty's Army, Knight Grand Cross of
the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael
and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honour-
able Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral
of the same; and issued under the Seal of the
said Colony, at the Government House, at Wel-
ington, this fifth day of November, in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-five.

SCHEDULE.

Allotment No. 74, Parish of Waiotahi.

All that parcel of land in the Opotiki Survey District, in
the Provincial District of Auckland, known as Allotment
No. 74 of the Parish of Waiotahi, containing by admeasure-
ment 20 acres, more or less. Bounded towards the North by
Allotment No. 70, 1545 links; towards the East by a road-
line, 1385 links; towards the South by Allotment No. 76,
1402 links; and towards the West by a road-line, 1653 links:
be all the aforesaid linkages more or less.

Addition to Ormond Recreation-ground brought under "The
Public Domains Act, 1881."

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this twenty-
ninth day of December, 1885.

Present:

The Honourable the Colonial Treasurer presiding in
Council.

By virtue of the powers and authorities vested in me by
the twenty-fourth section of "The Public Reserves
Act, 1881," I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, do hereby order and declare that the reserve made
for public recreation in the Provincial District of Auckland,
and known as the Ormond (Kohi Bush) Recreation-ground,
and described in the Schedule hereto, shall be and the same
is hereby brought under the operation of and declared to be
subject to the provisions of "The Public Domains Act, 1881;"
and such domain shall hereafter be managed, administered,
and dealt with, in manner directed by the said Act, by the
Domain Board constituted by an Order in Council, issued on
the tenth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-four.

SCHEDULE,

All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Auck-
land, containing by admeasurement 107 acres 1 rood
5 perches, more or less, being Section marked "Bush Re-
serve" in Block I., Waimata Survey District.

Regulations for a Special Settlement to be formed by Mem-
bers of the Police and Armed Constabulary Force.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this twenty-
ninth day of December, 1885.

Present:

The Honourable the Colonial Treasurer presiding in
Council.

Whereas by the one hundred and sixty-third section
of "The Land Act, 1885," it is enacted that the
Governor in Council may from time to time make, alter, and
repeal regulations for fixing the terms and conditions upon
which the lands in any special settlement shall be disposed
of, and the mode of payment for the same;

And whereas it is desirable to make regulations for the
occupation of the block of land set apart by Proclamation
dated the first day of January, one thousand eight hun-
dred and eighty-six, in terms of the one hundred and
sixty-second section of the said Act, as a special settlement
for non-commissioned officers and members of the Police
and Armed Constabulary Force, who may retire for the pur-
pose of settling thereon, or who may have been discharged
on reduction of that force since the first day of January,
one thousand eight hundred and eighty-two:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance
and exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me
by the hereinbefore in part recited Act, and by and with
the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, do hereby fix the following terms and conditions as
those upon which the special-settlement block shall be dis-
posed of to members of the said force, and the mode of pay-
ment for the same.

REGULATIONS.

  1. In the construction of these regulations, unless the con-
    text shall otherwise require, the following expressions shall
    have the meanings hereby assigned to them:—
    "Land" shall mean the block of land set apart for a
    special settlement for occupation under these regu-
    lations:
    "Settler" shall mean any member of the Police or
    Armed Constabulary Force who may lease land
    under these regulations:
    "Minister" shall mean the Minister of Lands for the
    time being, or any member of the Executive acting
    for him:
    "Commissioner" means the Commissioner of Crown
    Lands for the Land District:

  2. The allotments shall not exceed 200 hundred acres each,
    and shall be held exclusively on perpetual lease.

  3. All surveys shall be executed at the cost of the Govern-
    ment.

  4. Such portions of the land as may be required for the
    purposes of the Government of the colony, or for educational,
    recreation, or other public purposes, and as shall be approved
    by the Minister, shall not be open for allotment under these
    regulations.

  5. The allotment of sections shall be made according to
    priority of application to the Commissioner. Should more
    than one application be made for the same section on the
    same day, the right to occupy the same shall be determined
    by lot amongst the applicants.

  6. Every lease shall be for a term fixed so as to expire on
    the 30th day of June which shall first ensue after the expira-
    tion of thirty years from the date of the commencement of
    the term, and shall be renewable from time to time as pro-
    vided by "The Land Act, 1885," without right to the settler
    to acquire the freehold.
    The lessee shall pay the rent reserved by his lease to the
    Receiver of Land Revenue of the district wherein the land
    leased by him is situate, by equal half-yearly instalments, in
    advance, on the first day of the months of January and July
    in each year; and the half-year's rent, which must be paid
    at the time of tendering, shall be in discharge of the half-
    year's rent due on the 1st day of January or the 1st day of
    July which shall first ensue after the commencement of the
    term.

  7. The land shall be disposed of at a rental of not less than
    1s. an acre for the first term, and thereafter at such rental
    as may be assessed in manner provided by Part IV. of "The
    Land Act, 1885."

  8. One-third of the rents paid from time to time shall, for
    the first fifteen years, be repaid to the local body of the dis-
    trict for expenditure on roads in or leading to the block.

  9. Each settler shall, within two years from the date of
    his selection, bring into cultivation not less than one-tenth
    of the land selected by him.
    (a.) Each settler shall, within four years from the date of
    his selection, bring into cultivation not less than one-fifth of
    the land selected by him.
    (b.) Each settler shall, within six years from the date of
    his selection, in addition to the cultivation of one-fifth of
    the land, have put substantial improvements of a permanent
    character on the land to the value of £1 for every acre of
    such land.

  10. The expression "substantial improvements of a per-
    manent character" shall, for all purposes of these regula-
    tions, mean and include reclamation from swamps, clearing
    of bush or scrub, cultivation, planting with trees or live
    hedges, the laying-out and cultivating of gardens, fencing,
    draining, making roads, sinking wells or water-tanks, con-
    structing water-races, in any way improving the character or
    fertility of the soil, or the erection of any building.

  11. Cultivation shall mean—
    (1.) Fencing the land with timber or other durable mate-
    rials, not being a brush fence; or
