BOROUGH OF INVERCARGILL.

In the matter of "The Borough of Invercargill Loans Con-
solidation Act, 1885."

Public notice is hereby given that a poll of the burgesses of
the Borough of Invercargill was duly taken on the 3rd day of
November instant, on the proposal to bring into operation
"The Borough of Invercargill Loans Consolidation Act,
1885," and to undertake the construction of certain public
works under Part II. of the First Schedule to the said Act,
which said proposal is contained in a notice signed by me,
and published in the Southland Times newspaper of the
25th day of September last and the 2nd, 9th, and 16th days
of October last, and in the Southland Daily News newspaper
of the 25th day of September last and the 2nd, 10th, and
17th days of October last; and that at such poll the number
of votes recorded for the above-mentioned proposal was 840,
and the number against it was 92, and the number of
informal votes was 15. I therefore declare the proposal to
be carried.

County of Geraldine.

GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL.—SEADOWN WATER-SUPPLY
DISTRICT.

Proposal to borrow £2,500 for Irrigation Purposes.

I HEREBY give notice that a poll of the ratepayers in the
above-mentioned duly-constituted water-supply district, on
the proposal to borrow £2,500 for the purpose of carrying out
irrigation works in the said district, was taken on Thursday,
the 5th November, 1885, and that the number of votes re-
corded were—

In favour of the proposal .. .. 72
Against the proposal .. .. 3
—in accordance with "The Counties Act, 1876," and its
amendments.

I therefore declare the proposal duly carried.

BOROUGH COUNCIL.—PROPOSAL TO RAISE A SPECIAL LOAN
OF £10,000, FOR FIFTEEN YEARS, WITH A SINKING FUND
OF £200 PER ANNUM.

NOTICE is hereby given that, in accordance with "The
Municipal Corporations Act, 1876," and the amendments
thereof, a poll was duly held on the 5th instant, and the
Returning Officer has certified to me the following result:—

Votes for the proposal .. .. 360
Votes against the proposal .. .. 9
Informal .. .. 1

I have therefore to declare the resolution as submitted to
the burgesses at the said poll—viz.,—

  1. To repay balance of about £4,000 due on old loan on
    1st January, 1887;
  2. To metal Palmerston Road and Cobden Street North,
    the balance to be expended on such streets as the
    Council may desire to metal;
  3. To provide interest on the loan a special rate of 2½ per
    cent. will be struck as before—
    to be duly carried.

the Timaru Harbour Board, is published in accordance
with "The Timaru Harbour Board Loan Act, 1885."

SIR,—
TIMARU HARBOUR BOARD.—Proposal to borrow under the
provisions of "The Harbours Act, 1878," and "The
Timaru Harbour Board Loan Act, 1885," the sum of
£100,000, for the extension of the breakwater, dredging,
reclamation, and erection of wharves, jetties, and har-
bour improvements generally, as limited by "The Har-
bours Act, 1878."

In pursuance of the provisions of section 10 of "The
Timaru Harbour Board Loan Act, 1885," I have the honour
to give you notice that the result of the poll of the rate-
payers of the Timaru Harbour District, taken in pursuance
of the said "Timaru Harbour Board Loan Act, 1885," in
the several ridings and parts of ridings situated within the
said district, on the 7th day of November, 1885, and in the
Borough of Timaru, also situated within the said district, on
the 10th day of November, 1885, was as follows:—

For the proposal .. .. 957 votes.
Against the proposal .. .. 93 votes.

The number of votes given for the proposal exceeding the
number given against it by more than one-fourth of the
latter, I declared the resolution in favour of the proposal to
be carried; and I have now the honour to give you notice
that the said resolution was carried as aforesaid.

That the Ararimu Road Board be dissolved, and the Ararimu
Road District be merged in the County of Waitemata, on and
after the 16th day of November, 1885.

NOTICE is hereby given that CHARLES ZIELE, of
Dunedin, in the Colony of New Zealand, Managing
Director of McLEOD BROTHERS, LIMITED, of Dunedin afore-
said, has applied, on behalf of McLeod Brothers, Limited,
aforesaid, to register, under "The Trade Marks Act, 1866,"
the trade marks of which the following is a description, viz.:—

Description of Trade Mark No. 1.

A label with the word "Adamantine" enclosed within a
border of double lines, in capital letters, shaded in black,
an inch and a half long, with a small red heart transfixed by
an arrow; on the top and bottom of each letter the words
"McLeod Brothers, Limited, Dunedin," on a ribbon running
through the word "Adamantine;" in the centre of the same
word, and over the letter "A," a red heart transfixed by an
arrow, with the word "Established" printed therein; under
that the figures "1868," and again under that the words
"Trade Mark;" on the left side of the heart the words
"Best Stearine," on the right side of the heart the words
"Sixteen ounces;" on the left side of the word "Adaman-
tine," and enclosed within a border of double lines, a red
heart transfixed by an arrow, with the top of the heart nearest
to the letter "A," and the word "For" printed therein; under
that the words "Mining purposes," printed partly on
the left side, partly in the heart, and partly on the right side;
again under that the words "Cannot be" printed in the same
manner, and again under that the word "Excelled." Printed
in the same manner, on the right side of the word "Adaman-
tine," and enclosed within a border of double lines, is a red
heart transfixed by an arrow, with the top of the heart nearest
the letter "E," with the words "McLeod Brothers" printed
partly on the left side, partly in the heart, and partly on the
right side; under that the word "Limited" printed in the
heart; again under that the word "Dunedin" printed partly
on the left side, partly in the heart, and partly on the right
side; and again under that the words and figures "Esta-
blished 1868" printed partly on the left side, partly in the
heart, and partly on the right side.
