Arrangements for First Elections, &c., Borough of Newton.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to ap-
point

JOHN CURRIE

to be the Town Clerk of the Borough of Newton, and also
Returning Officer to conduct the first elections of Mayor,
Councillors, and Auditors of the said borough; also to
appoint Tuesday, the 8th day of December, 1885, for the
election of Mayor; Thursday, the 10th day of December,
1885, for the election of Councillors; and Friday, the 11th
day of December, 1885, for the election of Auditors of the
said borough; also to appoint Monday, the 14th day of De-
cember, 1885, at seven o'clock in the evening, at the office of
the late Newton Road Board, to be the time and place for
the first meeting of the Borough Council of the said borough.

Regulations re Quarantining Dogs imported into New South Wales.—Notice No. 183.

THE following amended regulation respecting the dura-
tion of quarantine to which foreign dogs imported
into New South Wales is published for general information.

"IMPORTED STOCK ACT, 1871," AND "IMPORTED STOCK ACT
AMENDMENT ACT, 1884."

His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Execu-
tive Council, has been pleased to cancel such parts of the
sub-regulations (1) and (2) of regulation 16 of the 5th
January, 1885, so far as the same relates to dogs, and that
portion of sub-regulation (11) of regulation 16 which pre-
scribes the term of quarantine of dogs, and to make the
following regulation, which is hereby published for general
information.

JOSEPH P. ABBOTT.

The duration of quarantine to which any dog imported
from a port or place not in any of the Australian Colonies
shall hereafter be subjected shall be six months from the
date on which such dog shall have been put on board such
vessel at any such port or place.

BY-LAW No. 6 AS TO HORSES AND CATTLE STRAYING ON
ROADS.

If any cattle shall be at any time found depasturing, wander-
ing, or trespassing on any main road, district road, or foot-
path under the control of the Waikouaiti County Council,
with or without any person having charge thereof, the owner
of every such cattle shall on conviction forfeit for every such
head of cattle a sum not exceeding £1; and it shall be
lawful for any officer of the Council or any constable to take
