make the following regulations for the Counties of Marlborough and Sounds:—

1. Licenses to fish for trout in the rivers in the Counties of Marlborough and Sounds will be issued under the hand of the Secretary of the Marlborough Acclimatisation Society at Blenheim, and for every such license a fee of ten shillings will be charged: Provided that it shall not be obligatory upon the said Secretary to issue a license: Provided further that the license-fee may be remitted if the applicant be a member of, or hold a valid license from, any other society in New Zealand which grants the like privilege.
2. Any holder of a license may fish with rod and line for trout, and may use a landing-net or gaff to secure any trout caught with such rod and line, in the above-named rivers, between the hours of five in the morning and ten in the evening from the first day of October, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five, to the thirty-first day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six, both inclusive.
3. No license shall authorize any person other than the person named therein to fish, and that with artificial fly or minnow only.
4. Any person fishing either without a license, or with any other bait than as aforesaid, or who shall, on demand of any person holding and showing a license, or on the demand of any ranger, police officer, or constable, fail to produce and show to such person, ranger, police officer, or constable his license, or the contents of his creel, basket, or other receptacle, or the bait used by him for taking fish, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding twenty pounds.
5. All trout not exceeding nine inches in length, taken by any person fishing as aforesaid shall be immediately returned alive to the water; and any person convicted of infringing this regulation shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding twenty pounds.
6. Except as aforesaid, no person shall fish or use any net or other engine, instrument, or device for taking fish in any river or stream within the Counties of Marlborough and Sounds; and all persons offending against this regulation shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds.
7. Any person who puts, throws, or places, or allows to be put, thrown, or placed, into any river or stream within the said counties, any dynamite or other explosive substance, or any matter or liquid deleterious to fish, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding one hundred pounds.
8. No person shall buy, sell, or expose or offer for sale, or shall fish for the purpose of obtaining for sale, any salmon or trout, or any part thereof; and any person infringing this regulation shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding fifty pounds.
9. If any person shall be convicted of any offence against these regulations the license (if any) held by the offender shall thereupon become void.
10. Nothing in these regulations shall be deemed to prevent any person or persons authorized in writing under the hand of the Secretary of the Marlborough Acclimatisation Society from taking salmon or trout, or the spawn thereof, for acclimatisation purposes.
11. These regulations shall come into force as from the date of the publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.

Regulations as to Pay of Field Force, Armed Constabulary.

WHEREAS by the fifth section of “The Armed Constabulary Act Amendment Act, 1869,” it is, among other things, enacted that the Governor may from time to time make and alter regulations respecting the clothing, equipment, and pay of the Armed Constabulary; and all such regulations shall have the same force as though they formed a part of the now reciting Act:
And whereas it is expedient to revoke such of the regulations made on the fifteenth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven, as relate to the Field Force branch of the said Constabulary, and to make others in lieu thereof, and also to prescribe the rates of pay for other branches of the said Armed Constabulary Force:
Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the hereinbefore in part recited Act, do hereby revoke such of the regulations dated the fifteenth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven, as relate to the pay of the Field Force, and in lieu thereof do hereby make the regulations set forth in the Schedules A, B, C, and D hereto; and do direct that such regulations shall be read with, and as part of, the existing regulations, and shall come into force on the first day of November, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five.

SCHEDULE A.
The pay for non-commissioned officers and men of the Artillery branch of the Armed Constabulary Force shall be as follows:—
Sergeant-major at 9s. per diem.
Instructors at 9s. per diem.
Sergeants at 8s. 6d. per diem.
Corporals at 8s. per diem.
Bombardiers at 7s. 6d. per diem.
1st class gunners at 7s. per diem.
2nd class gunners at 6s. 6d. per diem.
3rd class gunners at 6s. per diem.

SCHEDULE B.
THE pay for non-commissioned officers and men of the Engineer branch of the Armed Constabulary Force shall be as follows:—
Sergeant-major and foreman at 9s. per diem.
Sergeants at 7s. 6d. per diem.
Artificers at 7s. per diem.

SCHEDULE C.
THE pay for officers, non-commissioned officers, and men of the Torpedo branch of the Armed Constabulary Force shall be as follows:—
Lieutenant-superintendent at £250 per annum.
Petty officers at 8s. per diem.
Engineers at 9s. per diem.
Artificers at 7s. 6d. per diem.
A.B.s at 7s. per diem.
Torpedo-men, 1st class, at 6s. 6d. per diem.
Torpedo-men, 2nd class, at 6s. per diem.

SCHEDULE D.
THE pay for non-commissioned officers and men of the Field Force branch of the Armed Constabulary shall be as follows:—
Sergeants-major at 8s. 6d. per diem.
Sergeants, 1st class, at 7s. 6d. per diem.
Sergeants, 2nd class, at 7s. per diem.
Constables, 1st class, at 6s. 6d. per diem.
Constables, 2nd class, at 5s. 6d. per diem.
Constables, 3rd class, at 5s. per diem.
