REMARKS.—Fine up to 4th; from 4th to 10th showery and generally cold weather, strong wind on 5th, N.W., thunder and lightning on 5th, and lightning only on 4th and 8th, hail on 9th, ·520in. rain on 6th, the maximum for month; from 11th to 25th generally fine, although showers at times, wind chiefly S.E. and cool; remainder of month very stormy, with rain from N.W. Maximum temperature in shade, 62·5; minimum, 36·5. Average dew-point, 45·1; degree of moisture, 84.

Gold Fields Notices.

Gold-Mining Lease cancelled.

Mines Department,
Wellington, 9th October, 1885.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to pronounce the under-mentioned gold-mining lease cancelled, and that the ground is now open for application as if no lease of the said ground had ever been applied for:—

The Hochstetter; Section 5, Block VIII., 6 acres and 30 perches, Mawheranui, No. 987, Nelson South-West District.

Gold-Mining Leases to be granted.

IN conformity with the thirty-seventh section of “The Mines Act, 1877,” and with the regulations made under that Act for the granting of leases for gold-mining purposes, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant leases of Crown lands for gold-mining purposes to the applicants specified in the annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid objections against such leases.

Objections to the granting of such leases, stating the grounds of objection, must be made in writing, and lodged with the Warden at Westport on or before the 2nd day of November, 1885.

Copy of the applications made and plans annexed may be seen at the Warden’s Office at Westport.

SCHEDULE.

APPLICANT: Charles Woodward. Style under which it is intended to conduct the business: “Lucky Hit Quartz-Mining Company.” 16 acres 2 roods, at Stoney Creek, Waimangaroa, Nelson South-West Mining District.

Applicants: Henry Swain and Thomas Scanlon. Style under which it is intended to conduct the business: “Constitutional Quartz-Mining Company.” 16 acres 2 roods, at Stoney Creek, Waimangaroa, in the Nelson South-West Mining District.

Given under my hand, at Nelson, this ninth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five.

Native Land Court Notices.

Notice under “Native Land Laws Amendment Act, 1883.”

I, JOHN EDWIN MACDONALD, Chief Judge of the Native Land Court, do hereby, in compliance with the duty imposed upon me by “The Native Land Laws Amendment Act, 1883,” give notice that on the 18th day of September, 1885, the title to the lands mentioned in the Schedule herein became, within the meaning of the said Act, ascertained; and, further, that dealings with the said lands will cease to be prohibited by the provisions of the said Act on the 23rd day of October, 1885.

SCHEDULE.

NAME by which land is known: Makuratawhiti No. 3. Native Land Court District wherein situate: Otaki. Area: 1 rood 28 perches.

Name by which land is known: Otaki, Sections 136, 137, 152, 153. Native Land Court District wherein situate: Otaki. Area: 1 rood 27 perches.
