Te Makarini Scholarships.

TWO Scholarships of the yearly value of £35 each, to be
held at the Native College, Te Aute, Hawke’s Bay, are
offered for competition to Maori youths, on the conditions
laid down in the Regulations of the Trustees of the Te
Makarini Scholarships Fund, as printed in the Native
Schools Code, 1884. The examination will be held at
convenient centres on the 14th and 15th December, 1885.

Candidates must, either directly or through their teachers,
send notice to the Inspector of Native Schools, Education
Department, Wellington, of their intention to present them-
selves for examination. Such notice must be posted not
later than the 31st October next.

Copies of the regulations and forms of notice may be ob-
tained from teachers of Native schools and boarding institu-
tions, the Secretaries to Education Boards, or the Secretary
to the Education Department.

cold weather, with hail on 3rd and 4th, wind S.E., and
strong on 2nd and 3rd; from 8th to 12th, fine easterly
weather, with light winds; 13th to 16th, generally un-
pleasant, squally weather, with showers, ·46in. rain recorded
on 14th, the maximum for month, wind N.W., and strong on
15th and 16th; remainder of month finer, with intervals of
showery weather, wind N.W., strong on 22nd and 23rd, and
again stormy on 30th; prevailing wind from N.W. and S.E.
Maximum temperature in shade, 61·1; minimum, 35.
Average dew-point, 43·8; average humidity, 85. Earthquake
on 5th, at 5.10 p.m., rather sharp.
