By-laws made by Peninsula Road Board, County of Peninsula.

THE following by-laws, made by the Peninsula Road Board, are published in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

BY-LAW No. 1, 1885.

For the Regulation and Management of Licensed Slaughter-houses within the Peninsula Road District.

  1. It is ordered and directed by the Peninsula Road Board, by virtue of the authority in them vested, that, from and after the day in which this by-law shall come into operation, the license-fee payable to the Board from persons authorized to slaughter great or small cattle under “The Slaughter-houses Act, 1877,” shall be for a general license the sum of 20s., payable annually to the Road Board, such license to expire on the 31st day of December in each year.

  2. No slaughterhouse shall be licensed if the same be situated within 3 chains of any main or district road.

  3. All slaughterhouses, yards, and approaches thereto shall be kept clean, and free from any offensive smell.

  4. At least six hours’ notice, in writing, must be given to the nearest Inspector of Slaughterhouses, by the party licensed, of his intention to slaughter any great or small cattle, giving the number, brands, and description of same, and from whom purchased.

  5. No cattle shall be killed by any licensed slaughtermen except between the hours of 4 a.m. and 8 p.m. in the months of October, November, December, January, February, and March, and between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. in the months of April, May, June, July, August, and September.

  6. The Inspectors of Slaughterhouses shall, in writing, furnish a report to the Chairman of the Road Board not later than the 1st December in each year, stating generally the condition in which the slaughterhouses in the road district have been kept during the year.

  7. The fee payable to Inspectors shall be ¼d. for each and every head of small cattle killed for the purpose of sale, and 1d. for each and every head of great cattle so slaughtered. Where any great or small cattle are killed by licensed slaughtermen for other purpose than for sale, the fee shall be at the rate of 2s. per thousand for small cattle, and at the rate of 2s. per hundred for great cattle.

  8. For any breach of this by-law a fine of not less than 10s. or more than £5 shall be made.

BY-LAW No. 2, 1885.

If any horses or any cattle of any kind shall, at any time after this by-law shall come into operation, be found depasturing, straying, or trespassing, or being herded, tethered, or fed, in or upon any street, main or district road, or the sides or any ditch or bank thereof, or on any road or public place within the limits of the Peninsula Road District, or under the control of the Peninsula Road Board, whether under the tendence or control of any person or not, the owner of every such animal shall, on conviction, forfeit and pay a sum not exceeding £10 sterling, and the onus of proof that the trespass of any such animal as aforesaid is not wilful shall lie upon the owner thereof.

By-Law made by Pelorus Road Board, County of Marlborough.

THE following by-law, made by the Pelorus Road Board, is published in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER.

THAT, on and after the 1st day of July, 1885, the following by-law be enforced in the Pelorus Road Board District:—

Regulating the Pace of Traffic over Bridges, &c.

Any person who shall ride or drive any horse or any other animal, either with or without a vehicle, round an angle, corner, or sudden curve on any road or public thoroughfare within the limits of the Pelorus Road Board District, after this by-law shall come into operation, at other than a walking pace, shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding 10s. for the first offence, and 40s. for each and every subsequent offence; and every penalty imposed under this by-law shall and may be recovered in a summary manner.

I hereby certify that the above special order has been duly passed by the Pelorus Road Board in accordance with clauses 75 and 127 of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

Special Order made by Waipawa County Council.—Maungatua Road District constituted.

THE following special order, made by the Council of the County of Waipawa, is published in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER.

THAT, in pursuance of a petition presented to the Waipawa County Council, under the provisions of section 4 of “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” all that portion of the Waipawa County bounded as described in the Schedule hereto shall be constituted a road district, under “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” to be named the Maungatua Road District.

Schedule.

All that piece of land situated in the County of Waipawa, bounded as follows, namely: Commencing at the northernmost point of Section No. 185, Block VII., Woodville Survey District, and running thence in a south-easterly direction along the south-western boundary of the road known as Harding’s Road to the Manawatu River; thence generally in a southerly, westerly, and northerly direction along the northern bank of the Manawatu River to its junction with the Maungatua River; thence in an easterly direction along the southern bank of the Maungatua River to the point of commencement.

I hereby certify that the above special order has been duly made.

Charter of Waipu Working-men’s Club at Waipu, County of Whangarei, cancelled.

WHEREAS it has been made to appear to me that the Waipu Working-men’s Club does not comply with or conform to the conditions of the two hundred and twenty-ninth section of “The Licensing Act, 1881:”

Now, therefore, I, Patrick Alphonsus Buckley, the Colonial Secretary of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby revoke and annul the charter which has been granted to the said club.
