  1. MAGELLAN STRAITS.—Orange Bank.—Buoy replaced.—A black conical buoy, with the name of the bank in white letters, and surmounted by a white ball elevated 11½ feet above the sea, has been placed about one mile east of the north-east extremity of Orange Bank, in 5 fathoms of water at half-tide, in lat. 52° 23′ 50″ S., long. 69° 10′ 45″ W. Narrow Bank.—Buoy replaced.—A red conical buoy, with the name of the bank in white letters, and surmounted by a white ball elevated 11½ feet above the water, has been placed near the eastern extremity of Narrow Bank, in 4 fathoms of water at half-tide, in lat. 52° 19′ 30″ S., long. 69° 17′ 55″ W. Vessels should leave this buoy about 600 yards to the northward in passing. It is visible five miles. This position is only temporary, and the buoy will soon be placed to mark the southern extremity of the bank. (Page 16.)

Variation 19° 45′ easterly in 1885.

  1. Triton Bank.—Buoy replaced.—A black conical buoy, with the name of the bank in white letters, surmounted by a white ball elevated 11½ feet above the water, and visible five miles, has been placed on the southern extremity of Triton Bank, in 4⅔ fathoms water, half-tide, in lat. 52° 37′ 30″ S., long. 69° 55′ 5″ W. (Page 18.)

  2. Marta Bank.—Buoy changed.—A black conical buoy, with the name of the bank in white letters, surmounted by a white ball elevated 11½ feet above the water, and visible three miles, has been placed near Marta Bank, in 4⅓ fathoms of water at half-tide, in lat. 52° 49′ 20″ S., long. 70° 31′ 30″ W. The old buoy has been removed. (Page 26.)

  3. Vessels making for the anchorage in Sandy Point Road can pass about 200 yards from this buoy. (Page 30.)

  4. Covadonga Group.—Indian Reach.—Beacon.—An iron beacon, about 6 feet high, surmounted by a white barrel with red bands, has been erected on Perchi Islet. It serves as a guide to avoid the 1¾-fathom patch, about 200 yards S. 2° E. from this islet. (Page 156.)

Variation 21° easterly in 1885.

There is a small inlet one mile west of this position, which is sheltered from north-west and south-west winds, and which can be recommended for vessels of small tonnage. A plan of this point will soon be published. (Page 166.)
