new district out of part of an existing district, under the authority of section four of the said Act, the Council of the county in which the altered road district is situated shall, by special order, dissolve the Board thereof and make provision for the election of a new Board :

Now the County Council of the County of Ashburton doth hereby order that the Road Board of the Longbeach Road District shall be dissolved, and the same is hereby dissolved accordingly.

And it is also ordered that the election of a new Board shall take place on Wednesday, the 12th day of August, 1885, and that Mr. Charles Compton Fooks be the Returning Officer to conduct such election.

The first meeting of the new Board shall be held at the Road Board office, Winslow, on the 19th day of August, 1885, at noon.

The common seal of the Chairman, Councillors, and inhabitants of the County of Ashburton was hereunto affixed by the authority of the County Council of the said county on the 3rd day of July, 1885, by Charles John Harper, Chairman of the said Council, in the presence of—F. Mainwaring, Clerk to the Ashburton County Council, Ashburton.

I hereby certify that the above special order re dissolving the Board of the Longbeach Road District was duly made by the County Council of Ashburton, at an ordinary meeting of the said Council, held at its offices in the Town of Ashburton, on the 3rd day of July, 1885.

Resolved, That the Council do make a special order constituting a new road district, and that such special order be as follows, that is to say,—

SPECIAL ORDER.

In compliance with the petition of two-thirds of the ratepayers for the Longbeach Road District, which has been presented to the Council, and in pursuance of the powers conferred upon the Council by “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” and of all other powers vested in it in that behalf, the County Council of the County of Ashburton doth hereby order and declare that such part of the Longbeach Road District as is comprised within the boundaries hereinafter mentioned shall constitute a new road district, to be called the Coldstream Road District, that is to say,—

The Coldstream District shall comprise all that area in the Provincial District of Canterbury bounded towards the North-west by the Great Southern Railway, from the River Rangitata to the Windermere Road; thence generally towards the North-east by the middle of that road to its junction with the Boundary Road; thence by the middle of the latter Road to the River Hinds; thence by the middle of said river to the western boundary of Section 11420; thence by the western and south-western boundaries of that section, the western boundary of Section 11421, and the northern boundary of Section 11422 to the north-western corner of the latter section; thence by the western boundaries of Sections 11422, 21592, 21593, and a line in continuation thereof to the middle of boundary creek within Section 18866; thence by the middle of that creek to the sea; towards the South-east by the sea; and towards the South-west by the River Rangitata.

And it is also declared that the number of members of the Board of the said new road district shall be five.

And the Council doth appoint Mr. Charles Compton Fooks to be Clerk to the Board of the said Coldstream Road District so constituted as aforesaid, to hold office until a Chairman or Clerk is appointed by the said Board; and also Mr. Charles Compton Fooks to be the Returning Officer to hold the first election of members of the said Coldstream Road District, and Monday, the 10th day of August, 1885, as the day for such election.

And this Council doth further appoint Monday, the 17th day of August, 1885, at the hour of noon, as the time, and Mr. Dowding’s house, Longlands, as the place, for the first meeting of the said Road Board.

Special Order made by Ashburton County Council.—Altering Ridings.

THE following special order, made by the Ashburton County Council, is published in accordance with “The Counties Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1882.”

Resolved, That this Council do make a special order altering the Mount Hutt and the Mount Somers Ridings, in the County of Ashburton, and that such special order be as follows, that is to say,—

SPECIAL ORDER.

WHEREAS by virtue of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” and “The Road Boards Act 1882 Amendment Act, 1883,” this Council has altered the boundaries of the Mount Hutt Road District and the Mount Somers Road District, and has also constituted a new road district, with the name of the Anama Road District, thus causing the Mount Hutt Riding and the Mount Somers Riding of the County of Ashburton to be not in conformity with the provisions of section 23 of “The Counties Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1882:”

Now the County Council of the County of Ashburton doth hereby order and declare that the said ridings shall be and the same are hereby altered in manner following, that is to say,—

The Mount Hutt Riding shall consist of the Mount Hutt Road District.

The Mount Somers Riding shall consist of the Mount Somers Road District and the Anama Road District.

Bonus for Kerosene.

Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Wellington, 18th February, 1885.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus will be paid for the production of kerosene under the following conditions:—

A bonus of sixpence per gallon will be paid on kerosene produced within the colony to an extent not exceeding 50,000 gallons, in quantities of not less than 10,000 gallons at a time; the kerosene to be of a quality approved of by Government, and to be sold at a fair average market price.

Conditions.

  1. Notice of intention to claim the above bonus must be given in writing to the Colonial Secretary not later than the 31st December, 1885.

  2. The claim must be made before the 30th June, 1886.

  3. The first claimant who proves to the satisfaction of the Government that he has fulfilled all the conditions to be the recipient of the bonus.

  4. The other conditions as to quantity, priority, quality, and value to be fulfilled to the satisfaction of an officer appointed for the purpose by the Government.
