sented to the Council of the County of Selwyn praying the Council, by special order, to alter the boundaries of the Templeton and Lincoln Road Districts:

Now, therefore, the Council of the said county, in pursuance and exercise of the power given to it by the said Acts, doth hereby ordain and declare that the boundaries of the said districts as the same are at present constituted shall cease to be the boundaries of the said districts, and that the Road Boards of the said districts shall be dissolved; and, further, that the boundaries of the said districts shall be those which are specified in the Schedule hereto, and that the Road Boards of the said districts shall each consist of five members; and, further, that the first election of members of the new Boards shall be conducted in accordance with “The Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876,” and doth appoint William Jameson to be the Returning Officer to conduct such elections.

SCHEDULE.

THE Templeton District shall comprise all that area in the Provincial District of Canterbury bounded towards the North by a line along the middle of the Waimakariri River; thence towards the South-east, North-east, East, and again towards the North-east by the Riccarton Road District; thence towards the South-east, South-west, and again towards the South-east by the Halswell Road District, as defined by special order made the 28th April, 1885; thence towards the South-west by the south-west side of the old river-bed to Shand’s Road; thence towards the South-east by a line along the middle of latter road and also the Selwyn Road to the Weedon and Springs Road; thence towards the South-west by a line along the middle of the latter road to the Great South Road; thence generally towards the West by the Courtenay Road District to the place of commencement.

The Lincoln District shall comprise all that area in the Provincial District of Canterbury bounded towards the North-west by the Templeton Road District, above described; towards the North-east by the said Templeton Road District; thence towards the North-east and East by the Halswell Road District; thence towards the South by the south bank of the River Halswell; thence towards the South-west by a line along the middle of the Ellesmere Junction Road; thence towards the North-west by a line along the middle of the Lincoln and Prebbleton Road; thence again towards the South-west by a line along the middle of the Lincoln and Coal Tramway Road and the Weedon and Springs Road to the Selwyn Road, the place of commencement.

Made by the Council of the County of Selwyn, at the chambers of the said Council, in the City of Christchurch, this 26th day of May, 1885.

THE following by-law, made by the Southland County Council, is published in accordance with “The Counties Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER.

THAT this Council, by this special order, adopt the proposed impounding by-law, 1885, the same to come into operation on the 1st day of July, 1885.

By-law for the Regulation of Public Pounds, 1885 (“The Counties Act, 1876,” “The Counties Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1882,” and “The Impounding Act, 1884”).

It is hereby ordered and directed by the Southland County Council, by authority in them vested, as follows:—

  1. This by-law shall come into operation on the 1st day of July, 1885.

  2. The impounding by-laws 1880 and 1881 are hereby repealed.

  3. Every Poundkeeper shall charge and receive for cattle impounded the several poundage fees, sustenance rates, trespass rates, and driving charges specified in the following Schedule:—

Table of Trespass Rates to be charged for Trespass of Cattle.

Description of Cattle. Trespass in Unfenced Land. Trespass in any Fenced Paddock or Meadow of Grass or Stubble. Trespass in any Fenced Land having thereon any Growing Crop or from which the Crop has not been removed, or in any Fenced Cemetery
For every horse, mare, gelding, filly, mule, ass, bull or ox, steer, heifer, cow, calf, colt, or foal .. £ s. d. £ s. d. £ s. d.

For any number exceeding twenty-five, per mile .. 2 0

Charges for giving Notice of Detention of Cattle.

For giving notice of the detention of cattle, for every mile or part of a mile exceeding one furlong from the residence of the person giving such notice to the residence of the owner of the cattle .. .. 1 0

Provided that in no case shall the charge for so driving or for giving notice exceed the sum of £2.

Poundkeeper’s Fees for Cattle, other than Sucklings and the Age of Six Months, and for Sustenance thereof whilst impounded.

The charges for food to be paid for each day or part of a day during which the animal is supplied with food and water by the Poundkeeper. No charge is to be made for the sustenance of suckling animals under the age of six months.
