Officers desirous of passing the course will report themselves to Major Butts, at the Garrison Orderly-room, Mount Cook, from whom they will receive instructions. The Board will prepare examination papers, to be sent to the several large centres of population, in order that the examination of officers may as far as possible be the same at each.

Officers will be expected to prove their competence at drill, from the earliest stages to the command of a company and battalion, respectively.

Lectures will be given by several members of the Board, in branches of which they have special knowledge.

Officers may at any time within three months of their appointment to acting commissions apply to be examined and to prove their competence.
