Special Order made by Selwyn County Council.—Altering Halswell, Templeton, and Spreydon Road Districts.

THE following special order, made by the Selwyn County Council, is published in accordance with “The Counties Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1882.”

In the matter of “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” and the Acts amending the same.

SPECIAL ORDER.

WHEREAS in pursuance of section 7 of “The Road Boards Act 1882 Amendment Act, 1883,” petitions have been presented to the Council of the County of Selwyn praying the Council, by special order, to alter the boundaries of the Halswell and Templeton Road Districts:

Now, therefore, the Council of the said county, in pursuance and exercise of the power given to it by the said Acts, doth hereby ordain and declare that the boundaries of the said districts and of the Spreydon Road District, as the same are at present constituted, shall cease to be the boundaries of the said districts, and that the Road Boards of the said districts shall be dissolved; and, further, that the boundaries of the said districts shall be those which are specified in the Schedule hereto, and that the Road Boards of the said districts shall each consist of five members; and, further, that the first election of members of the new Boards shall be conducted in accordance with “The Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876,” and doth appoint William Jameson to be the Returning Officer to conduct such election.

Schedule.

The Halswell District shall comprise all that area in the Provincial District of Canterbury bounded towards the North-west by the north-west boundary of Section No. 952 from the River Halswell to the south-west side of the Halswell Junction Road; thence towards the North-east by said road to a point in line with the north-west boundary of Section No. 350; thence again towards the North-west crossing the Halswell Junction Road to the south-eastern side of the road north-west of Section No. 350, following the same and the continuation thereof to the middle of the Lincoln and Riccarton Junction Road; thence towards the North-east by a line along the middle of the latter road to the Lincoln Road; and thence by the River Heathcote to Colombo South Road; thence towards the East by a line along the middle of the said Colombo South Road and Dyer’s Pass Road to the ridge of the Port Hills; thence towards the South-east and again towards the East by the ridge of the Port Hills to the north-east corner of Rural Section No. 1060; thence towards the South by the northern boundaries of Sections Nos. 1060, 1452, and 1267 to the north-west corner of the latter section; thence by the western boundary of Section No. 1267, the northern and western boundaries of Section No. 1266, and the northern boundaries of Sections Nos. 1046, 18810, 13595, 13631, and 895 to the north-west corner of the latter section; thence by the western boundary thereof to a point opposite to the middle of the Road and Drain Reserve separating Sections Nos. 13589 and 3700; thence across the road and by a line along the middle of the said reserve to the River Halswell; thence towards the West generally by the River Halswell to the north-west boundary of Section No. 952 aforesaid, the place of commencement.

The Templeton District shall comprise all that area in the Provincial District of Canterbury bounded towards the North by a line along the middle of the Waimakariri River; thence towards the South-east, North-east, East, and again towards the North-east by the Riccarton Road District; thence towards the South-east, South-west, and again towards the South-east by the Halswell Road District, as above described; thence towards the South-east by the Lincoln Road District; thence towards the South-west and North-west by the Courtenay Road District to the place of commencement.

The Spreydon Road District shall comprise all that area in the Provincial District of Canterbury bounded towards the North-west by the Riccarton Road District; towards the North-east, North, and again towards the North-east by the Borough of Sydenham; towards the East by the Heathcote Road District; and towards the South-east and South-west by the Halswell Road District, as above described.

Made by the Council of the County of Selwyn, at the chambers of the said Council, in the City of Christchurch, this 28th day of April, 1885.

Special Orders made by Ashburton County Council respecting Anama and Mount Somers Road Districts.

THE following special orders, made by the Ashburton County Council, are published in accordance with “The Counties Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1882.”

EDWARD RICHARDSON,

RESOLVED, That the Council do make a special order constituting a new road district, and that such special order be as follows, that is to say,—

SPECIAL ORDER.

In compliance with the petition of two-thirds of the ratepayers for the Mount Somers Road District, which has been presented to the Council, and in pursuance of the powers conferred upon the Council by “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” and of all other powers vested in it in that behalf, the County Council of the County of Ashburton doth hereby order and declare that such part of the Mount Somers Road District as is comprised within the boundaries hereinafter mentioned shall constitute a new road district, to be called the Anama Road District, that is to say,—

All that area now forming part of the Mount Somers Road District which is bounded on the North-east by the south branch of the River Ashburton; on the South-east by the Upper Ashburton Road District; and on the South-west by the Rangitata Road District.

And it is also declared that the number of members of the Board of the said new road district shall be five.

And this Council doth appoint Mr. James Brake to be Clerk to the Board of the said Anama Road District so constituted as aforesaid, to hold office until a Chairman or a Clerk is appointed by the said Board, and also Mr. James Brake to be the Returning Officer to hold the first election of members of the said Anama Road Board, and Saturday, the 2nd day of May, 1885, as the day for such election.

And this Council doth further appoint Saturday, the 2nd day of May, 1885, at the hour of noon, as the time, and Mr. Brake’s house, Mayfield, as the place, for the first meeting of the said Road Board.

The common seal of the Chairman, Councillors, and inhabitants of the County of Ashburton was hereunto affixed by the authority of the County Council of the said county on the 4th day of April, 1885, by William Campbell Walker, Chairman of the said Council, in the presence of F. Mainwaring, Clerk to the County Council of Ashburton.

I hereby certify that the above special order for the formation of the Anama Road Board District was duly passed by the County Council of Ashburton, at an ordinary meeting of the said Council, held at its offices, in the Town of Ashburton, on the 27th day of March, 1885.

Resolved, That this Council do make a special order dissolving the Board of the Mount Somers Road District, and that such special order be as follows, that is to say,—

SPECIAL ORDER.

Whereas by virtue of the powers conferred upon it by “The Road Boards Act, 1882,” and of all other powers vested in it in that behalf, this Council has constituted a new road district, with the name of the Anama Road District, out of part of the Mount Somers Road District; and it is enacted by the 13th section of the said Act that, when the boundaries of any road district are altered by the formation of a new district out of part of an existing district under the authority of section 4 of the said Act, the Council of the county in which the altered road district is situated shall, by special order, dissolve the Board thereof, and make provision for the election of a new Board ;
