Regulations under “Sale of Poisons Act, 1871.”

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this fifth day of May, 1885.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by “The Sale of Poisons Act, 1871,” His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby make the regulation following with respect to the sale of poisons, and doth declare that such regulation shall come into force and take effect on and after the first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five.
REGULATION.
- EVERY seller of poison or of any poisonous admixture shall enclose such poison or admixture in a bottle of an octagonal shape, and shall, before delivering the same to the purchaser, firmly affix to such bottle a label with the word “Poison” in white letters on a red ground appearing thereon. Such letters to be in block type of not less than a quarter of an inch in length and one-eighth of an inch in breadth.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS on or about the twenty-first day of August, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, the Council of the Borough of Kumara made a general rate in respect of property within the said borough, and prior to the making of such rate caused estimates to be prepared in terms of section one hundred and nine of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876” (herein termed “the said Act”): And whereas it appears that such estimates, although advertised as open for inspection, were not publicly notified as by the said Act required, and by reason thereof doubts have arisen as to the validity of such rate, and it appears expedient to remove such doubts and to make the order hereinafter set forth:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers vested in him by the said Act and “The Rating Act, 1876,” and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby order and declare that the said rate of the twenty-first day of August, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, so made as aforesaid shall be valid and effectual, notwithstanding the omission to publicly notify the said estimates as aforesaid.

Declaring Reserves in Canterbury.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the thirtieth section of “The Land Act 1877 Amendment Act, 1884,” I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the reserves mentioned in the Schedule hereto which were set apart for ferry purposes, and which were, by “The Public Reserves Sale Act, 1882,” authorized to be sold for purposes of settlement, shall be excepted from sale, and shall be reserved for the improvement and protection of the Rangitata River.
SCHEDULE.
PART of Reserve 1486, south bank of the Rangitata River. The northern half of the said reserve containing 50 acres, more or less.
Reserve 100, south bank of the Rangitata River, containing 100 acres, more or less.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this second day of May, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five.

Notice of Intention to change the Purpose of a Portion of a Reserve.

WHEREAS by “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” it is, amongst other things, enacted that the Governor may declare his intention to make, change, exchange, or alter the dedication of any public reserve now or hereafter vested in Her Majesty or the Governor for any of the purposes named in Class II. of the Schedule to the said Act, whether the same be granted or not; and, in the case of any reserves made under the authority of section one hundred and forty-four of “The Land Act, 1877,” if it shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be expedient to change the purpose of such reserves or any part thereof from the purpose or presumed purpose for which it was set apart to any other purpose, or if it shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be expedient to exchange any of the land comprised in such reserve for other land of equal value, to be dedicated to one or more purposes named in the said Class II., the Governor may, by notice in the Gazette, declare his intention to make such change, exchange, or dedication, as the case may be, and in such notice declare the manner and terms in which the same is intended to be so made:
Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” aforesaid, declare my intention to change the specific purpose of a portion of the reserve described in the first column of the Schedule hereto, the area of which is described in the second column of the said Schedule, to the specific purpose set opposite such description in the third column of the said Schedule.

Defining the Purpose of Reserve at Foxton.

WHEREAS by the fifth section of “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” it is, amongst other things, enacted that, in the case of any public reserve now vested in Her Majesty or the Governor, whether the same be granted or not, such reserves not being for one of the purposes comprised in Class I., if there shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be any doubt or uncertainty as to the purpose for which such reserve was set apart, the Governor may, by notice gazetted, define such purpose or purposes as to either the whole or any part of such reserve:
And whereas the land described in the Schedule hereto was reserved by the Superintendent of Wellington for public purposes:
And whereas it is expedient to define the specific purpose for which such lands shall hereafter be set apart:
