Defining the Purpose of Reserve at Foxton.

WHEREAS by the fifth section of "The Public Reserves Act, 1881," it is, amongst other things, enacted that, in the case of any public reserve now vested in Her Majesty or the Governor, whether the same be granted or not, such reserves not being for one of the purposes comprised in Class I., if there shall, in the opinion of the Governor, be any doubt or uncertainty as to the purpose for which such reserve was set apart, the Governor may, by notice gazetted, define such purpose or purposes as to either the whole or any part of such reserve:

And whereas the land described in the Schedule hereto was reserved by the Superintendent of Wellington for public purposes:

And whereas it is expedient to define the specific purpose for which such lands shall hereafter be set apart:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by "The Public Reserves Act, 1881," aforesaid, declare my intention to define the specific purpose of the reserve described in the first column of the said Schedule hereto to be the purpose set opposite such description in the second column of the said Schedule.

SCHEDULE.

Description and Purpose of Reserve. Intended Purpose.

All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Wellington, containing by admeasurement 3 roods 6 perches, more or less, being Section No. 44 on the plan of the Township of Foxton. Bounded towards the North by Section No. 57, 319 links; towards the East by a public road, 250 links; towards the South by a public road, 304 links; and towards the West by Section No. 45, 250 links: reserved for public purposes.

As a site for a town hall.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-third day of April, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five.

Temporarily reserving Lands in the Land Districts of Auckland, West Coast (North Island), Canterbury, Otago, and Southland.

WHEREAS by the one hundred and forty-fourth section of "The Land Act, 1877," it is enacted that the Governor may from time to time, either by general or particular description, and whether the same has been surveyed or not, reserve from sale temporarily, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral license, any Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of the purposes in the said section mentioned:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by the said Act, do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the land in the Land Districts of Auckland, West Coast (North Island), Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, described in the Schedule hereunder written, for the purposes in the said Schedule specified.

SCHEDULE.

AUCKLAND.

All that piece or parcel of land containing by admeasurement 38 acres 2 roods, more or less, situate in the Titirangi Survey District, Provincial District of Auckland, and being Section No. 361 of the Parish of Waikomiti. Bounded towards the North by Sections Nos. 295, 296, 297, 298, 299, 300, 301, 302, 303, and 304 of the aforesaid parish, 2354 links; towards the East by Lewis Street, 1584 links; generally towards the South-east by the Manukau Harbour; and thence generally towards the West by Powditch, Gilfillan, and Wynyard Streets, 2000 links, 494 links, and 642 links respectively, to the point of commencement: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less. For a recreation reserve.

WEST COAST (NORTH ISLAND).

All that piece or parcel of land in the Provincial District of Taranaki, containing by admeasurement 4 acres, more or

less, being Section No. 61, Block VIII., Cape Survey District. Bounded towards the North by Section No. 59, 874 links; towards the East by the South Road, 457.7 links; towards the South by a road, 874 links; and towards the West by a road, 457.7 links. For a school site.

CANTERBURY.

All that parcel of land in the Borough of Ashburton, Provincial District of Canterbury, containing by admeasurement 7 acres 3 roods 14 perches, more or less, being Reserve No. 300 (in red). Bounded on the North-west by East Street; on the North-east by South-street; on the Eastward by another street; and on the South-east by the high bank of the River Ashburton: as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the District Survey Office, Christchurch. For a recreation reserve.

All that parcel of land in the Borough of Ashburton, Provincial District of Canterbury, containing by admeasurement 1 acre, more or less, being Reserve No. 301 (in red). Bounded on the North-east by South-street; on the Westward by the street separating this reserve from Reserve No. 300; and on the South-east by Cass Street: as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the District Survey Office, Christchurch. For a recreation reserve.

All that parcel of land in the Borough of Ashburton, Provincial District of Canterbury, containing by admeasurement 30 acres, more or less, being part of Reserve No. 1923 (in red). Bounded on the North by Reserve No. 300; on the North-east by the Terrace; on the South-east by a line in continuation of the south-eastern side of the Town Belt East; and on the South-west by the River Ashburton: as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the District Survey Office, Christchurch, and numbered 2668 (in red). For a recreation reserve.

All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Canterbury, containing by admeasurement 13 acres, more or less, being Section No. 2335 (in red), situate in the Opihi Survey District. Bounded towards the North-west by a road-line, also by a line bearing 70ยฐ 8', 2910 links; towards the North-east by the River Opuha; towards the South-east by Section No. 30334 and a line in continuation of the north-western boundary thereof, 2500 links; and towards the South-west by a road-line, 500 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the District Survey Office, Christchurch. For a gravel-pit.

All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Canterbury, containing by admeasurement 5 acres, more or less, being Section No. 2424 (in red), situate in the Opuha Survey District. Bounded towards the North-east by Section No. 31988, 10 chains; towards the South-east by a road-line, 5 chains; towards the South-west by Section No. 31987, 10 chains; and towards the North-west by Section No. 31988, 5 chains: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the District Survey Office, Christchurch. For a gravel-pit.

All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Canterbury, containing by admeasurement 5 acres, more or less, being Section No. 2664 (in red), situate in the Oxford Survey District. Bounded towards the West by a road-line, 1168 links; towards the South-east by a road-line, 1448 links; and towards the North by Lot No. 22, subdivision of Reserve No. 2331 (in red), 856 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the District Survey Office, Christchurch. For a gravel-pit.

OTAGO.

All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Otago, containing by admeasurement 3 acres 1 rood 8 perches, more or less, situate in the Township of Dunkeld, and being Sections Nos. 1, 2, and 3 of Block XXXV. of said township. Bounded towards the North-east by Esk Street 569.8 links, also by Forth Street 538.4 links; towards the South-east by a street-line, 75.4 links; and towards the South-west by Sections Nos. 4, 5, 6, and 7 of same block, 1000 links; and towards the North-west by Seven Street, 400 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less. For a gravel reserve.

All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Otago, containing by admeasurement 4 acres 2 roods 26 perches, more or less, situate in the Township of Dunkeld, and being Section No. 1 of Block XXV. of said township. Bounded towards the North-east by East Ferry Street 580.8 links, also by East Bridge Street 31.8 links; towards the South-east by Sections Nos. 2 and 5 of same block, 1165.9 links; towards the South-west by Forth Street, 694.6 links; and towards the North-west by Forth-street, 498.8 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less. For a quarry reserve.

All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Otago, containing by admeasurement 11 perches, more or less, situate in the Township of Macrae's, and being Section No. 3 of Block I. of said township. Bounded towards the North-west by Section No. 32 of same block, 49 links; towards the North-east by Section No. 2 of same block, 150 links; towards the South-east by the main street, 49 links; and towards the South-west by Section No. 4 of same block, 150 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less. For police purposes.
