in the case of military townships; and that in every such
locality not less than two-thirds of the number of the resi-
dent householders shall concur in any such petition, and
each signature to such petition shall be verified by the
attestation of some respectable witness; and that such
petition shall set forth accurately the boundaries of the
locality to which such petition may refer; and also that,
on the receipt of any such petition, the Governor may, by
Proclamation, declare that the provisions of the said Act
shall come into force within such locality, and that the
same shall be a town district under the said Act; and,
further, that such Proclamation shall accurately define the
boundaries of the district in accordance with the description
contained in the petition, and shall declare the name by
which such district shall thereafter be known:

And whereas a petition has been presented to the
Governor, by the inhabitants of the locality mentioned and
described therein, praying that such locality may be consti-
tuted a town district under the said Act:

And whereas not less than two-thirds of the number of
resident householders in the said locality have concurred in
the said petition, and it is expedient that a Proclamation
should be issued under the said Act for the purposes herein-
after set forth:

Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, in the name and on
behalf of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand, and as his duly-appointed Deputy, in pursuance and
exercise of the power and authority vested in me by the
hereinbefore in part recited Act, do hereby proclaim and
declare that the provisions of the said Act shall come into
force within the locality or district mentioned and described
in the Schedule hereto (the same being the locality men-
tioned and set forth in the said petition so presented as
aforesaid), and that the same shall be a town district under
the said Act; and, in further pursuance and exercise of the
said power and authority, I do hereby declare that the said
district shall hereafter be known by the name of the South-
bridge Town District, and I do appoint that the Board of
Commissioners for the said district shall consist of seven in
number.

SCHEDULE.

SOUTHBOROUGH TOWN DISTRICT.

At that area in the Provincial District of Canterbury,
situate in the Southbridge Survey District, commencing at
the south-western corner of Section No. 6816, and bounded
towards the North-west by that section for a distance of 1171
links; thence across Harman's Road to the north-eastern
corner of Section No. 5861; thence towards the North-east
by a line running parallel to Jollie's Road to McKenzie's
extension of the Township of Southbridge; thence again
towards the North-west by the north-western boundary of
the said extension to Section No. 4145; thence again towards
the North-east by the said Section No. 4145 and Section No.
5106; again towards the North-west and North-east by the
last-mentioned section and by the production of its south-
western boundary-line to Section No. 8338; thence towards
the South-east by the said Section No. 8338 and Section No.
12677 and the north-western boundary-line of the latter pro-
duced till it meets a line running parallel to and 1600 links
distant at a right angle from Jollie's Road aforesaid; thence
towards the South-west by the last-mentioned line to Smith's
extension of the Township of Southbridge; thence again
towards the South-east by the south-eastern boundary-line
of that extension; again towards the South-west by the
south-western boundary-line of Smith's extension of the
Township of Southbridge aforesaid and that line produced
across the North Rakaia Road; towards the North by the
northern side of that road to its intersection by a line run-
ning parallel to and 1600 links distant at a right angle from
Jollie's Road aforesaid; thence again towards the South-west
by the last-mentioned line to Section No. 4982; thence again
towards the North-west by the said Section No. 4982 and
by its southern boundary-line produced across Jollie's Road
aforesaid; and thence again towards the North-east by
Section No. 6816 aforesaid to the place of commencement.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir James
Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, for and on
behalf of His Excellency the Governor, and as his
duly-appointed Deputy, in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies;
and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the
Government House, at Wellington, this fifth
day of March, in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred and eighty-five.

Declaring a certain Road in the Waipa County to be a
County Road.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At Wellington, this twenty-third day of February, 1885.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers vested in him
by "The Public Works Act, 1882," and of all other
powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excel-
lency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor
of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and
consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth
hereby order that the road in the County of Waipa, described
in the Schedule below, shall, on and after the date above
mentioned, become a county road, under the charge and
control of the Waipa County Council.

SCHEDULE.

So much of the Whatawahata-Raglan Road as lies within
the County of Waipa, including the whole of the bridge over
the Waipa River at or near Whatawahata.

Declaring a certain Road in the Whaingaroa Road District
to be a District Road.

lency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor
of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and
consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth
hereby order that the road in the Whaingaroa Road District,
described in the Schedule below, shall, on and after the
date above mentioned, become a district road, under the
charge and control of the Whaingaroa Road Board.

SCHEDULE.

So much of the Whatawahata-Raglan Road as lies within the
Whaingaroa Road District, County of Raglan.
