Revocation of Appointment of Bonding Warehouses.
CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the authority in me for this purpose vested, I, the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, do, by this order under my hand, revoke and annul the appointment of the under-mentioned warehouses for the reception and security of goods entered to be warehoused without payment of duty upon the first entry thereof, namely:—

Alterations and Additions to Scale of Fares and Charges in force on New Zealand Railways.
IN accordance with section 144 of “The Public Works Act, 1882,” I, Edwin Mitchelson, the Minister for Public Works, do hereby make the following addition to the scale of charges for the purpose specified below, such addition to come into force from and after the 12th January, 1883 :—
PART IV.—LOCAL RATES.
HURUNUI—BLUFF.
Class H.—Wool.
Wool from railway stations lying between Ealing and Deborah inclusive, and from stations on the Albury, Waimate, Duntroon, and Ngapara Branches, will be charged classified rates up to seventy-one miles, and ¾d. per bale per mile for undumped, and ½d. per bale per mile for double-dumped, for each additional mile.

Notice of Intention to take Land for Ballast-pits, Foxton—New Plymouth Railway.
WHEREAS in pursuance of the power and authority contained in Part II. of “The Public Works Act, 1882,” it is desired to take or acquire the land hereinafter described or referred to, the same being required for the use, convenience, or enjoyment of a certain public work which has already been executed, namely, the Carlyle—Manutahi Section of the Foxton—New Plymouth Railway: And whereas the necessary survey of the said land has been made and a plan of such land has been prepared, and has been deposited at the Post Office at Manutahi :
Notice is therefore hereby given that the said plan is now open to inspection by all persons, at all reasonable hours, at the Post Office aforesaid, and that the general description of the said land so required to be taken is as follows:—
All that piece or parcel of land, containing by admeasurement 3 acres and 19 perches, being portion of Section No. 61, Patea District, commencing at a point 746 links from the north-east corner of Section No. 61, on a bearing of 187° 11'. Bounded—Generally Northerly by lines, 130 links and 433 links respectively; South-easterly by a line, 833 links;
South-westerly by a line, 247 links; Westerly by a line to commencing point, 776 links.
All that piece or parcel of land, containing by admeasurement 1 rood 8 perches, being portion of Section No. 61, Patea District, commencing at a point 290 links from the north-east corner of Section No. 61, on a bearing of 157° 19'. Bounded—North-easterly by a public road, 364 links; Southerly by a line, 200 links; Westerly by a line to commencing point, 304 links.
All that piece or parcel of land, containing by admeasurement 25 perches, situate in the Survey District of Carlyle, Provincial District of Taranaki, being portion of Section No. 503, Patea District, commencing at the south-west corner of Section No. 503 and north-west corner of Section No. 76. Bounded—Westerly by a public road, 157 links; Northerly by a line, 157 links; Easterly by a line, 157 links; Southerly by Section No. 76 to commencing point, 157 links.
All that piece or parcel of land, containing by admeasurement 3 roods 2 perches, being portion of Section No. 76, Patea District, commencing at the north-west corner of said section. Bounded—Northerly by Section No. 503, 157 links; North-easterly by a line, 787 links; Southerly by a line, 190 links; South-westerly by a line to commencing point, 744 links: be all the above areas and linkages either more or less. The several parcels of land being situate in the Survey District of Carlyle, Provincial District of Taranaki, and are more particularly delineated upon the plan marked P.W.D. 10865, deposited in the office of the Minister for Public Works at Wellington.
And notice is hereby further given to all persons affected by the taking of the said land to set forth in writing any well-grounded objections they may have to the taking thereof, and such persons are required to send such objections in writing to me, the undersigned, at Wellington, within forty days from the first publication of this notice.

Colonial Industries.—Portland Cement.

WRITTEN TENDERS will be received at this office up to noon on 31st March, 1884, from persons who are willing to contract for the supply and delivery of one hundred tons of Portland Cement. The cement to be manufactured in the Colony of New Zealand, and to be delivered at any of the under-mentioned places, viz., Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Port Chalmers, or Invercargill. Tenders to be addressed to the Minister for Public Works, and to be marked outside “Tender for Supply of 100 tons of Portland Cement.” Specifications and conditions may be seen at the Public Works Offices, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Invercargill. The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.

Public Libraries.
Education Department,
Wellington, 20th September, 1883.
NOTICE is hereby given that the sum of £6,000 has been voted by Parliament for distribution to public libraries.
The distribution will take place on the 31st January, 1884, and no claim will be considered that shall not have been sent in in due form and received by the Secretary for Education, Wellington, before the 22nd January, 1884.
Every public library maintained by rates will be entitled to share in the distribution according to its income from rates; and every library maintained by subscriptions and voluntary contributions will be entitled to share according to its income from subscriptions and voluntary contributions: Provided in either case that the income for the year has not been less than £2; and that admission to the library, if within a borough, is open to the public free of charge.
The income of each library may be stated either for the year ending 31st December, 1883, or for the year ending with that day in the year 1883 on which the annual accounts of the library were made up.
The distribution will not be in proportion to the several incomes of the libraries; but a nominal addition of £25 will be made to the amount of each income, and the vote of £6,000 will be divided in proportion to the amounts as thus augmented, but so as that no institution shall receive more than £50, and that no payment shall be made in respect of income derived from endowments or grants from Borough or County Councils, or of moneys received for building purposes and not simply for the library itself.
