THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

of parts of the New Hanover coast, when passing between
that coast and the Portland Islands, the south-western
and largest island was found to be in lat. 2° 37' S., long.
149° 39' E.
These islands are very low and flat, and therefore dangerous
to approach at night.
ADMIRALTY ISLANDS.
La Vandola Island. — The longitude of this island,
148° 13' E., as placed upon Chart 780 appears to be correct.
L’EXCHIQUIER ISLANDS.
When passing these islands the “Espiègle” found the
north-east extreme of them to be in lat. 1° 6' S., long.
144° 30' E., and the north-west in 1° 3' S., 144° 24' E.

formation.

HARBOUR OF LYTTLETON.
It is hereby notified that, on and after the 16th May, 1884,
all vessels’ yards must be braced sharp up before entering
between the moles or breakwaters, to avoid colliding with
the electric-light lamp-posts on the jetties and wharves; the
lamp-posts being 53 feet in height above the wharves.

Notice to Mariners, No. 20 of 1884.
BEACON ON NORTH EDGE OF SOUTH TRAINING-WALL, GREY-
MOUTH, WEST COAST OF MIDDLE ISLAND.

Wellington, N.Z., 20th May, 1884.
NOTICE is hereby given that an iron beacon-rod sur-
mounted by an iron cage, the whole painted red, has
been placed at a distance of 10 feet from the extreme north
edge of the apron of the south training wall at the entrance
of the Grey River.
The iron cage is 18 inches in diameter, and shows 11 feet
clear above ordinary spring tides, and should not, under any
consideration, be approached nearer than 20 feet.

Notice under “The Native Land Laws Amendment Act,
1883.”
WHEREAS the estate and interest of Ani Ripihi and
Akuhata Ripihi, half-caste natives of New Zealand,
in the land described in the Schedule hereto, is vested in
George Lipsey and Ema Lipsey, as Trustees under the pro-
visions of “The Maori Real Estate Management Act, 1867,”
and the several amendments thereof, subject to certain
restrictions on the alienation of such land, and application
has been made for the removal of such restrictions :
It is hereby notified that it is intended, immediately after
the expiration of sixty days from the publication of this
notice in the Gazette and in the Kahiti, to remove the said
restrictions on the alienation of the said land in respect of
the interests aforesaid, in order that the said lands may be
sold by the said Trustees.
Dated at Wellington, this fifth day of March, in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

ALL that piece of land situated in the Te Aroha Survey Dis-
trict, containing 2 roods, more or less, being part of Section
No. 17 of Block IX. on the map of Te Aroha Survey District,
and part of the land described in Vol. xxiv., folio 166, of the
Register-book, which said piece of land intended to be con-
veyed is part of Block IX. on the map of the Te Aroha Gold
Field Town; and is bounded towards the North-east by Lower
Street, 150 links; towards the South-east by Bridge Street,
333·2 links; towards the South-west by Church Street, 150
links; and towards the North-west by other part of said
Block IX. on said map, 333·2 links.
