GEELONG.—ADDITIONAL WARPING BUOY.

MASTERS of vessels and others are informed that, on the 13th instant, an additional warping buoy will be placed about 460 feet off the west side of the railway pier, in 7 feet of water.

WESTERN PORT.—QUEENSFERRY JETTY LIGHT.

NOTICE is hereby given that, on and after the 1st April, 1884, a red light will be exhibited from the end of the Queensferry Jetty, visible in clear weather about three miles distant.

THE following Notice, received from the Marine Board, Hobart, Tasmania, is published for general information.

PORT CHARGES, HOBART.

Pilotage.—The charge for pilotage upon a foreign-going vessel arriving at the Port of Hobart and landing cargo is—Pilotage inwards: Sailing-ships, 6d. per ton register; steamships, 4d. per ton register. Maximum pilotage, £15.

Pilotage outwards is not compulsory, but the master of an outward-bound vessel can secure, at a small cost, the services of a pilot if he requires one.

Intercolonial traders are liable to the same charge for pilotage as foreign-going ships, unless the masters hold exemption certificates.

Harbour Dues.—For services performed by Harbourmaster: For each remove, ½d. per ton register, provided that the total amount for all or any one remove shall not exceed the sum of £7 10s.

Light Dues.—Light dues are paid by all intercolonial traders and foreign-going vessels: For each occasion of entering the Port of Hobart—Steamships, 4d. per ton register; sailing-ships, 6d. per ton register.

Charge upon Vessels not liable to pay Wharfage Rates.—For every intercolonial trader or foreign-going ship, for each occasion of entering the Port of Hobart, upon which passengers are landed, but upon which no goods liable to pay wharfage rates are landed from such vessel, a fee or charge of 3d. per ton register shall be paid to the Collector of Customs when entering the ship inwards at the Customhouse.

Exemptions.—All vessels calling for coal or supplies, anchored in the port, or coming alongside wharf, having passengers for another port and none for Hobart, the passengers are allowed to land without entailing any port charges upon the ship. All vessels arriving and sailing in ballast, or which do not break bulk, or only to such an extent as may be necessary to provide funds for repairs, coaling, refittings, or refreshments required by such vessels, are wholly exempted from the payment of all port charges, lighthouse dues, and all port dues whatsoever, except only those of pilotage, in cases where the service of a pilot has been actually required and received.
