SCHEDULE A.—(Clause 4.)—Christchurch, 20th March, 1884.—To the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Christchurch.—I hereby apply for a Gold-Mining Lease of the lands hereinafter described, in accordance with the Gold-Mining Leases Regulations of New Zealand, and I agree, upon the approval of this application, to execute a lease upon the basis therein stated, if the Governor shall think fit to grant the same.—JOHN SMITH. Name and address in full of applicant: John Smith, Clerk, Christchurch. Style under which it is intended to conduct the business: Macpherson’s Quartz-Mining Company. Extent of land applied for: 16½ acres. Minimum number of men to be employed by the lessee: (1) For the first six months, two men; (2) subsequently, when in full work, eight men. Amount of capital proposed to be invested: £8,000. Proposed mode of working the land: Tunnels and shafts. Precise locality: North of North Creek Company’s Lease, head of North Creek, Wilberforce. Term for which lease required: Fifteen years. Time of commencing operations: On survey. The above application and any objection thereto will be heard at the Commissioner’s office at Christchurch, on Thursday, the 10th April, 1884. Any person desiring to object to the issue of a mining lease upon the above application must, within twenty clear days from the date of such application, enter his objection at the Land Office at Christchurch.—JOHN H. NOTICE is hereby given that the Partnership lately subsisting between the undersigned has been by mutual consent dissolved, as from the 6th day of November, 1883.
All debts due to the late firm of Brandon, Shaw, and Brandon must be paid to the undersigned, A. de B. Brandon and A. de B. Brandon, jun., who have been appointed receivers, and who will discharge all outstanding liabilities of the late firm.
Messrs. A. de B. Brandon and A. de B. Brandon, jun., will continue their business, under the firm of “Brandon and Son,” at their offices in Featherston Street.
Mr. Shaw will continue his business for the present at the Exchange Chambers, in Grey Street, above offices of Union Steam Shipping Company.

PRIZE OF ONE HUNDRED POUNDS.
THE Council of the Linnean Society of New South Wales hereby offers a prize of one hundred pounds for the best original essay “On the Life History of the Bacillus of Typhoid Fever.” The author must confine himself to facts which he has himself observed under methods which are to be clearly explained. Each essay must be in English, must be distinguished by a motto, accompanied by an envelope containing the author’s name, and must be delivered at the Society’s House, 54, Phillip Street, Sydney, on or before the 31st December, 1884.
MOUNT IDA PASTORAL INVESTMENT COMPANY (LIMITED).
NOTICE.
AT an extraordinary meeting of shareholders of the above-named company, held at their registered office, Naseby, on Monday, the 3rd day of March, 1884, the following special resolution was unanimously passed:—
“That the Mount Ida Pastoral Investment Company (Limited) be wound up voluntarily, and that the present directors be empowered to appoint Liquidators and to take all necessary steps towards the winding-up of its affairs without unnecessary delay.”
And an Extraordinary Meeting of the shareholders will be held at the same place on Thursday, the 3rd day of April, 1884, to confirm the said resolution.

THE Piako County Council has erected a Public Pound on that piece of land adjoining Lots 81 and 82, Lipsey’s Block, Te Aroha, and has appointed Mr. JOHN WILLIAM RICHARD GUILDING Poundkeeper thereof.
Notice is hereby given of the establishment of the said Pound, and of the appointment of the said John William Richard Guilding as Poundkeeper.
